30 Super Carry
« on: February 18, 2023, 10:34:00 AM »
Has anyone had the fortune of handling this 30 Super Carry case in comparison to a 9mm case?

I read about this new caliber, and was underwhelmed with what it offered as an “improvement” over modern 9mm.

But then I worried about a case from a range slipping through into my brass for reloading 9…

Why worry it's just another caliber to sort out. I find all different calibers when sorting my brass. I de-cap and size everything on a turret press before I move to the progressive so I physically handle every case beforehand. I've found this to be an effective way of sorting out other calibers that find their way in.
I'm read up on the .30 super carry and the ONLY thing I see special about it is higher capacity in micro pistols. Nothing that I'm interested in personally.

A 30 Super Carry case is significantly thinner than a 9mm case.  The difference would be obvious.

I use the sorting baskets that end up leaving me, ultimately, with .380 as the only cases that sneak through when I batch clean.  But I don’t handle every case, honestly. I use an automated system (Evolution) for speed and invested in the sensors etc to avoid that requirement.
The .380, happily, triggers the sensors and stops the press.
I’m always watching though, but of late the system, finally after too long tinkering and fine tuning, has caught every potential issue during operation.

If I start seeing these 30 super carry ( that’s just a silly name IMO) cases I’ll have to stress test the system with one and see what happens.

Does the system pick up on 22 cases that get caught in bigger cases? I tumble all my brass from the range and still find smaller cases inside of larger ones at times. Which is why I started de-capping the old way again. This actually also helps the progressive run even smoother since the cases have all had a trip through the size die already.
