CZ Rifle ID Help
« on: September 28, 2003, 06:46:28 PM »
I came across this forum while trying to find info.concerning a used CZ rifle that I recently purchased and would appreciate any input concerning this rifle.

It is a bolt action chambered in .243.It has a,nice looking, walnut,Monte Carlo style style stock with a cheek piece and white line spacers on the pistol grip and butt. The stock is also flat in the forend area with a square cut angular end.On the left side of the receiver is the serail number,(I presume), 74**D and behind it CESKOSLOVENSKA ZBROJOVKA,A.S.,BRNO .I may have the spelling a bit wrong because of lightly stamped letters. It has no sights and is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. The safety is a two position Mauser looking type.

The rifle is in excellent condition, appears to have been used very little, with a couple of minor handling dings in the wood.

Any and all info.such as model, year, and value ranges pertaining to this particular rifle is greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Steve

Check out if there's any markings around the receiver ring(front) and please post if so, what type of front and rear sight does this rifle have?

1-Possibly a VZ-24 (military receiver with thumb cut-out on right side of receiver for stripper-clips)which have been arsenal refished to a sporter under the Brno mfgr.

2-Not an early sporter Brno ZG-47(1956-1962) or Model 21H(1946-1955)

3-Brno 98 Standard:same as #1 but recently mfgr.(1998-onwards), these are also sold in barrelled action form so any stock can be seen dressing this rifle.

Thanks for the reply.

I have some additional info.
The receiver only has what I presume to be the serial number on the left side of the rear ring,#74**D
On the left side rear of the barrel there is a stamp

DEISCH
.243

There is a notch on the left side of the receiver just forward of the bolt removal lever.
The safety, although appearing to be a three position type, has only two positions and  rotates 1/4 of a turn.It rotates in the direction of the circumfrence of the bolt.

The bolt has two forward locking lugs and what appears to be one more at the rear of the bolt.
There is also a CRF claw on the bolt.
The magazine floorplate has a recessed release button just as a military rifle has.

If it is a sporterized military action it has been very well done.

Once again,THANKS for the help.
