CZ 550 Premium range report
« on: October 22, 2003, 03:58:36 PM »
Hi all,

Just re fired my CZ550 Premium last week...first time in a year! Originally tried the Millet rings included with the rifle but they wouldn't stay tight. The receiver foot on the back left didn't mate up with the receiver cut out so the scope would move. Ordered some Warne rings and installed the thing myself. These are outstanding rings in my view...anyway, boresighted the old fashioned way by removing bolt and sighting through the bore until I could see the target, then adjusted the Leupold VX II until crosshair were on and presto...first shot was 3" low and rt of bullseye. Fired again and the spotter said "Uh...I think it hit the same hole!" Moved to 100M and fired 3 touching then zeroed at 200m. Also took some shots at the 450M steel gong just to see what would happen. Aimed about 24" high and bingo!

Gotta love this rifle! I let the range guy take some shots and showed him the "set" trigger...wow! was his reply.

Bottom line...don't use the Millets

Regards

Traditional quality is hard to beat: rifle, scope & ring choice.

Simple curiosity on my part: what caliber is your rifle(Millet failure reason?)

Once you've tasted the set-trigger:D , it's hard to go back:x

The Warnes seem expensive but once you've seen them you see that they are extremely well done and designed.

Fred,

Caliber is .270Win. The reason for the ring failure is that the foot on the rear Millet ring did not exactly fit the cutout in the receiver bridge. This allowed movement fron and rear during recoil. The Warne rings fit exactly, very well machined.

I ordered the Warne's direct from the company and I believe they cost about $40
