I was wondering if anybody has the 550 american in .243.  I just bought mine and the first day at the range, 2+ inches at 100 yds. off a bench. Two different brands of ammo, cleaning the bore every fourth shot. Everything tight on scope. I do not reload but would like to know what people are shooting from their .243. I know this rifle will shoot better than my first results. I am looking for a good shooting varmint round for coyote. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

An often neglected area for bad score is contact point between barreled action and wooden stock, this is the case not only with CZ but with 99%:eek  of other rifle mfgr.

Is the barrel free floated8o ?

Is there good action to stock:x  fit(easily remidied by accraglass bedding)?

The above points will stop flyers;)  on your target paper.

What 's the weight of your projectiles so far.
Another thing which just pop in my mind: have you degreased your ring(what brand are you using?) and put some powdered resin(available thru Brownell), use Lock-Tite on the srews. Tap with the handle part of a screw driver on the reticle part of your scope(while looking thru it), 75%  of the time the cross-hair often gets jammed up, the tapping will dislodge the cross-hair.

we have been using some 87gr hornady sp and 100gr hornady's. neither has had any better luck. as for the free float i did a check and the barrel has enough room to slide a piece of paper between the barrel and the stock when folded in 2. i am hoping to maybe try some factory loads and see if maybe my friend has a problem with the loads. he has been using 414 powder with 43 gr per shell. i am no gun pro so know very little about the technical stuff but i can be educated. also on the scope i know it was screwed done with thread seal and tapping changes zip. i took the scope of to see if maybe it was the scope itself. i put it on my brno 22 and at 50 meters we are shooting penny's of a post. and thats with 10 year old federals.
