CZ 527 300 Blackout magazines.
« on: April 04, 2023, 09:13:25 PM »
Does anyone know the magazine length of the 300 Blackout magazines? Does it use the 223 Remington length CZ magazine, or the 222 Remington length CZ magazine or the 221 Fireball length CZ magazines with the rear plastic spacer? I know the 300 Blackout is based off of the 221 Fireball case but designed to run in the Colt 5.56/223 length magazines. If they are the 223 Remington length CZ magazines it just might be a universal magazine for the 17 Remington, 204 Ruger, 223 Remington and 300 Blackout as it doesn't have the other (17-204-223) magazines side stiffening 1/2 moon ridges in the magazine sides.

David,
Interesting point.  I imagine it uses the standard CZ 527 mag length.  Idk re the side stiffening ridges.  And it might not be universal, as they could tweak it a little (I hope) for each caliber to optimize feeding.

The 527's had three different trigger guard/magazine well and magazine lengths. Smallest was the 17/22 Hornet, 221 Fireball and 222 Remington length. Longest was the 6.5 Grendel/7.62X39 magazine length and trigger guard/magazine well. The middle length accepted the 17 Remington, 204 Ruger, 223 Remington and I think the 300 Blackout rounds. I don't actually know which of the three different lengths the 300 Blackout uses though. From experience you can use the 223 magazines for the 17 Remington, but the 204 Ruger has to long of a shoulder distance to fit in the 223 magazines. The 204 hits the 223 magazines side stiffeners. I don't have any experience with the 300 Blackout in a CZ 527 but while looking for some other magazines I noticed a picture of the CZ 300 Blackout magazine and it was pretty much a smooth sided (no 1/2 moon stiffeners) magazine. I'm mostly just curious if it is possible that the 300 Blackouts magazines would be usable with the 17-204-223-300 rounds. This would save some expense if you had different caliber 527's in the middle magazine length and were looking to pick up a few spare magazines. The four different cartridges all use the 222/223 parent case base size so it would only then matter if the 300 Blackout magazines feed lips would work with the other three rounds. With the discontinuation of the 527 rifles and parts to follow eventually this might prove useful in the future. I'm sort of thinking out loud here.

Interesting.  Most manufacturers economize, and make everything fit a standard size.  Kudos to CZ for doing it the old fashioned way, and fitting to the caliber range.
Of course, this may be one of the reasons the 527 was discontinued, and CZ moved to cheaper rifles.

Its almost like the 527 mags are the best thing about that rifle.  I do hope CZ plans to support them for the foreseeable future.

Anyone see this?  Folks are using them with alternative brands!

Maybe not the best thing about the CZ 527. The magazines can be a bit finicky and are generally rough around the feed lips when new. But they do smooth out are adjustable and quality wise there pretty good. I've actually seen the Howa/CZ bottom metal. An acquaintance has a Howa mini with it. I give him grief about not going and doing it right by just starting out with the CZ 527 in the first place.
