Need advice, Fred

Fred, sorry for not responding to your questions this long. Local hunters in Mongolia can hunt wolf, wild boar, brown bear and different species of gazelle and deer for a small fee. However the game offered for foreign hunters /I presume you are more interested in/ are the famous Argali, mountain goat Ibex, elk, bear for main trophy plus the animals mentioned above. If need more info I can get them for you.

I have a question from you too. I am planning to order a couple of stocks from Richards Microfit Stocks. One stock is for my BRNO ZKK-600 7x64 rifle with fixed magazine. I sent an email to Richards Microfit Stocks and this is their reply:

....Thank you for your email. We would be able to manufacture those stocks accordingly. However, we would need a sample stock to determine the correct barrel contour and action variation that you need stocks for. Please advise if a sample is available...

I don't have a sample stock to send them. They have ZKK-600 action listed in their list of available action inlettings. So they should have the sample stock. Please suggest what to do in this case. Maybe should I send the photo of my rifle and action or shall I order the stock inletted for CZ-550 Standard lenght action with fixed magazine? I believe they definately have the CZ 550 sample stock. And how much fitting will be required to fit it to a ZKK 600 action? Also what about the barrel contour, does 550 and 600 barrels in same the caliber are same in size? What do you think of the Richards Microfit Stocks in general?
Sorry for asking this many questions.

How can I get the rifle photos that Doublet posted here. Is it no longer available?

Best Regards,

No problem, another post gave me a link to hunting thruout the world(Mongolia was included), I was astonished to see wildgame which I had'nt even heard of.

Your contact with Richards Microfit(or any other stockmaker) is typical from the U.S., most U.S. firearm industry are just begining to know CZ(so even less Brno). Your delay in time might be a blessing in disguise: CZ is on the verge of releasing an American Classic black Walnut stocked CZ-550, the seperate stocks should be available soon thru CZ-USA(don't forget to specify that you have a fixed magazine) or thru your local distributor. Richards stocks are of the best quality(surpassing what you'll be able to get from CZ) but at a low price compared to other stockmaking firms(higher priced than CZ). The CZ-550 stock fits fairly easily, with only minor modifications compared to your original Brno 600. The major reason Richards asked you to supply a stock is because these firm usually equipped with stock duplicating machines(a bit like a home key duplicating machine), since so many stock variations are available(Monte-Carlo, Classic, Hog-back, etc.) an exact copy of yours is less trooblesome(for you: re-adjusting recoil-pad, scope reticles, and what not).

If ordering thru Richards: this is the time for you to correct a bad fitting stock. Ex. I have monkey arms(being able to touch your toes without bending your knees, in other word: long arms. This situation can be corrected by having a longer lenght of pull.

If need be: I could supply them with a Brno ZKK-600 stock, if your willing to pay shipping(back and forth) to them + insurance.

The ball is in your court.

All the best,
Fred

Fred, thanks for your reply. If the CZ 550 stock will fit with minor fitting I'll just go ahead and tell them to inlet the stock for CZ 550 with fixed magazine. I think that the barrel external diameter of standard 550 and 600 rifles in 30-06 cal is the same. What do you think? I haven't handled a CZ 550 yet.

Same contour. One minor point which I just though of: you just having  the barrelled action, do you have the recoil stud attachement (near mid point of barrel). This secures the action from recoiling and demolishing your new stock(the stud attachement consist of: a screw which passes thru the stock and screws in a dovetailed insert which fits in your barrel). If your looking for a fonctional(but far from beeing a show-piece) Monte-Carlo stock which has no cracks, or gouges(original recoil pad is installed) , simply looks bad. I could sell you the stock which I was going to send to Richards for $50.00 U.S. (transport not included). If you it does'nt fit I'll take back the stock & reimburse you.

Thanks for the offer. You have been very helpful. The reason I am choosing Richards stocks is that I want to get a little fancy stock like a thumbhole laminate stock in good color. Something my friends could be jealous of, you know. I am living almost exactly halfway around the would from where you are and shipping costs make me make my decisions very carefully. I almost order all my gear except guns from the US so I always pay expensive shipping charges. Returning goods is a big hassle and lots of time wasted. But again thanks a lot.
I will always hear opinion in future.
