Went on a short trip to Africa today . . .

Held a 550 Safari in my hands, .416 Rigby, beautiful condition, in the local gun store I visit.  I picked it up and suddenly felt an urge to go abroad to Africa.

Man, I love/hate that rifle.  And on the day a 550 American entered my life . . .

A new American walnut(a classic straight stock with no drop at the comb) is coming out and will accomodate the use of a scope more easily. You'll start to think that you're with Dr. Livingston.;)

I used to have one of the very early CZ .416 Rigby's. It was very rough and had several problems. Fixed the problems, then lent it to a buddy for an Alaskan trip for bear and he wouldn't give it back. So sold it to him.

Just saw the write up on the new Safari grade in the current Guns & Ammo magazine. Looks pretty good. I may very well order one to see just how much they have improved. Thinking of a buffalo hunt in Zambia the  summer of 2005. A true classic tented safari in really wild Africa. Now that I think of it, a .416 Rigby would be as "classic" as they get.
