Question regarding pre B CZ 75 handgun

I just purchased what I think is a CZ pre B. It has the rounded trigger guard, and the old style hammer like my Retro. It was made in 2003, and it has a BZ xxx serial number.

Is it in fact what they call at CZ 75 pre B?

Had to look it up.  If you can believe Wikipedia then the Pre B guns were made from 1980 to 1993.  After that were the B and BD models, followed by other variants in a few years.

The Pre B means no firing pin block.  Which means no hole through the slide for the roll pin that holds the firing pin in the slide.  Does yours have that hole/roll pin in the slide?  They did make, for some period, a CZ85 Combat with no firing pin block (as well as other pistols with no firing pin block) but I don't think they'd have the spur hammer or rounded trigger guard.

Thanks for the reply, I looked it up too and got a similar answer. I also have a CZ Retro and the reason they call it that is because it has the rounded trigger guard and the old style hammer. I am also able to 1/2 cock this pistol which is a characteristic of the pre B models.

If the only difference is the role pin in the slide which mine does have then it would not be a pre B but certainly a Retro model without the Retro marking.

Mine must be an early B model before they changed the hammer and trigger guard.

The did make what many today call "transition models." 

You'll see pictures of rounded trigger guards with the newer style front sight (pinned not staked) and other crosses between the Pre B characteristics and the B/BD characteristics.

Still a nice pistol to have.

A transition model makes sense to me. It is a very nice gun, and I actually prefer it over the new models. The gun is 20 years old and new. Thanks for the input folks!

A round trigger guard B would be quite unusual. And 2003 was waaay past when transitionals were made. But...with CZ you never know. Everytime I think I've seen every version of CZ75, someone shows up with something different. Perhaps a leftover Retro frame was used.  Pics would be appreciated. 
*also, all 75 models have the half cock notch.

That's a pretty pistol.  Great shape.

It's got the firing pin retaining pin hole but no "B" after the CZ75. 

Might be an early B model or, as someone else suggested, a short run of guns made with on the shelf parts that CZ didn't repeat once the parts were used up.

I checked with CA and they said their records could not indicate what it was given it is 20 years ago.

My guess is it is a transitional model. It clearly has the rounded trigger guard and the flat hammer, and it also has the hammer pin.

It is a very nice pistol in almost new shape and I am holding on to it.

What you have appears to be a “Retro” model run that was released  through the RSR Group (distributor) back in 2004. Yours might be an early/earlier version as it has the older serial number scheme before it was changed during 2004 to A######.

You are most likely right although I do have a Retro that I purchased a year ago and it is markedCZ 75 Retro on the slide. I wonder if the ones you are talking about were marked because this one is not.

 The earlier release he is talking about is different then the more recent ones. There have been a few "Retro" models over the years. They very slightly.
