Sp01 manual saftey and decocker question.
« on: May 15, 2023, 07:16:13 PM »
Hi, I'm new to cz. And owned mostly striker polymer guns. I've owned da/sa revolvers and shot other folks 1911s beretta and such. So I ask in advance, please excuse my ignorance ;D. Im thinking about an spo1 next. The one I'm looking at in my gun store now I believe is a safety only model. I dont think it has a decocker. Will either of these be relatively safe to leave holsterd hammer down no saftey on? Requiring a longer heavier first trigger pull in a shtf situation? I believe I read the sp01 has a firing pin block- drop saftey, is that so? I have 25 years with glock type guns. Prefer not to retrain my muscle memory to swipe a thumb saftey.

The simple answer to your fundamental question is either version is relatively safe to be carried hammer down (safety off or decocked). The safety won't engage unless the gun is cocked, so it won't interfere with operation when in DA mode. Unless you get an SP01 Shadow, there will be a firing pin block in place... i.e. the non-Shadow variants are drop safe.

However, the tactical version (de-cocker) is much safer to de-cock with a round in the chamber.

Just my 2 cents
SP-01 Tactical
75 D PCR fully Cajunized
2075 Rami B (9 mm), 85 trigger/reach reduction kit
75 SC Massada
97 B CGW reach reduction kit/‘flat’ trigger/race hammer
457 Varmint MTR
82, 9x18
P10C OR SR
Dan Wesson Valor V-bob black Duty finish
P10F OR
75 B

Safe to carry hammer down , that’s how the Cz double action was designed to be carried..enjoy!

The B variants have a firing pin block.  The Shadow variants don't have a firing pin block.

Most hammer fired CZ's also have a half cock hammer position that pulls the hammer off the firing pin for another level of redundant safety.  Plus it helps shorten/lighten that first trigger pull.  Both safety/decocker B variants are safe to carry hammer fully down or at half cock.

I'd opt for the Sp-01 tactical if I were going to employ a full sized all metal pistol.  For carry, I'd look for a CZ PCR, it's a alloy framed CZ Compact with a decocker.

Cheers,
Toby
