557 Sporter scope ring height

I just picked up a 557 sporter in 308. Does anyone have a good idea what ring height I'll need for a 4-12x50 scope with a 30mm tube. Would like to get it low on the rifle but not sure weather I need medium or high rings.

If memory serves me correctly, I think I used high rings on my 557. Probably 70-75% sure on that.

On one of my 550s I used medium rings, then with another I had to turn around and order a second set of (high) rings, both rifles using the same scope, which never made sense to me. So that might be the reason that I just went with high rings on the 557 to start with.

Ok thanks. I'll go ahead & order set of highs then. I'd rather be a little off the barrel than not be able to mount it because of it hitting.

None of my scopes have an objective bell that size, the issue for me was always bolt throw. Why one rifle needed higher rings than the same model other rifle still baffles me to this day, but they both shoot well, so....(shrug)

I ended up getting medium height & it clears, not by much but it does. Got them off Amazon, figured if they were too low I could just return them & get highs. I had the scope laying around from a previous gun I had it on & didn't want to buy something else. That's the reason for such a large objective. A little overkill but it'll work.
