527 American Laminated vs. 527 Varmint Laminated

Ok, I just found out that I'm getting a pretty nice tax return from Uncle Sam (and an entire $1 from the great state of Pennsylvania!). So, I'm already looking for my next CZ purchase (making 8 total) .  

So here is my question: what is the accuracy difference between the 527 American with laminate stock vs. the 527 Varmint with laminate stock at about 150 yards? Is it worth the extra weight and $100  (money that I could possibly put away towards a CZ 97)?

Thoughts? Opinions? Sarcastic remarks?

What are your CZ-527 going to be used for: hunting varmint, target shooting, plinking, or just collector sake?

Why are you interested in the CZ-97: competition, self defence, informal target shooting, or just collector sake?

The 527 will be used for 60% plinking, 40% target shooting and maybe once a year varmint hunting. The 97 will be used for target shooting with the posibility of competition shooting next fall.

Since you already have a CZ-527 for plinking, hence no urgency for acquiring the other models(N.B.: all other calibers than the 7,62 X 39mm are even better performers accuracy wise: .17 Rem., .221 Fireball, .222 Rem., .223 Rem. The .22 Hornet is a bit like the 7,62 in the accuracy dept.: once handloaded you'll be finer m.o.a. )

The CZ-97 has the spotlight, since you're thinking of competitive shooting, you'll barely have time to familiarise yourself with this piece, better have big hands

Agreed that the .223 is better than the 7.62x39 for accuracy, hence my wanting to get one for the 40% target shooting. Also, the one time a year I do go varmint shooting, the 7.62 seems like overkill. I like the carbine, thought, for cheap plinking with mil surplus and with good factory ammo (I don't reload) I can go hunt game that would be too big for the .223 round. So both would serve different roles, which brings me back to the original question of accuracy between the two.

As far as the 97 goes, that's a big 10-4 on hand size and being a school teacher I have an entire summer to familiarize myself with it... every day, for three months, if I so wish.

My final choice would be the Varmint in .17 Rem. or .223 Rem. the mild recoil of these calibers & their inherited contant accuracy make them hard to beat in long target shooting compared to the American model. Since surplus .223 Rem. abound the market at low price: a clear advantage. Although the choice of weight of projectile in surplus ammo is limited it's well worth being considered. The U.S. military upgrade to the 6.8 mm will make lots of .223 Rem. surplus ammo for years abound.

Hi,
Shoot a 97 before your buy.  Big hands are a must with that.  I have big hands and didn't like my 97.  Maybe I was spoiled to the feel of the 85.
On the 527, wait and see if this new military cartridge works out.  The 115g bullet may be the ideal cartridge for the 527.

Thanks for the advise. Unfortunately, I don't know anybody who owns a 97 to let me shoot it before I buy. However, the CZ dealer I go to has one in stock that I can handle before I buy it.  I guess that is the best I can do on that front.

As far as the 527 goes, what is the word on the new caliber? Does CZ even plan on making this available in the varmint model?

I'm not sure if CZ will embrace the cartridge or not.  But, for the kind of shooting I do, it would seem ideal.  Small enough for varminting and plinking out to 400 yards or so, yet large enough for larger game.
