Anyone tried the Ascalon Arms 125% Recoil Spring?
« on: July 05, 2023, 10:27:00 PM »
…especially with a 16” carbine barrel?

Thoughts?

I put a second hand oem Scorpion carbine barrel on my 3+ pistol and it kicks significantly more…not pleasant to shoot like it was with the oem 8” barrel. Wondering if the 125% spring is enough to reliably tame this little beast without causing any hiccups?

Thanks!

I have one and have shot, maybe, 300 rounds, since installing on a standard Scorpion 7.72" barrel. The 300 rounds were a combination of suppressed (reason for ordering) and unsuppressed.

A little stiffer cocking handle effort and little less gas in the face is about all I can recall.

Shipping straight from Ascalon took quite a while. I think they are sold in the USA now.

Thanks for the info!

Ascalon products are sold in the US by Nexus Firearms and Rainier Arms.

Ok, so I went out into the blazing heat today to test the Ascalon 125% recoil spring in the 3+ with a 16” barrel, 100 rds of Fiocchi 115gr fmj (effectively +P) and @ 50 rds of Norma +P 108gr MHP — there were no failures of any kind, though the spent cases looked scorched on the outside from blowback.

Though the 125% spring did reduce the snappy recoil to a tolerable level, it did not eliminate it to the pleasant level of the short-barreled pistols. Maybe Ascalon should make a 150% recoil spring to counteract the snappy recoil with the 16” barrel even more.

Also fitted the Ascalon receiver shim, which did a good job of eliminating the slop between the upper and lower receivers without drilling.

You want a softer spring to be less snappy.
