CZ 75 D PCR uneven wear on hammer and slide
« on: July 22, 2023, 06:56:52 PM »
I have 160 rounds through my cz75 pcr that I purchased new in April of 2023.  Have not had any feed, ejection or light strike problems at all.  I have notice that the hammer is only making contact with the slide when cycling on the right side of the hammer the wear pattern.  Also the rear of the slide where hammer strikes fire pin is only showing wear on right side at the top and bottom. The slide rails also show uneven wear.

Any one have similar wear on hammer?  I will be contacting CZ USA next week.

Thanks Craig

It is decocker ,sear has one short hook and one normal size.I see nothing wrong there, except that your slide is hairy for some reason.

Thanks Retteryer.  I added a picture of the hammer with wear on right edge only.  I asked this question because my only other hammered fired pistol is a colt 1911 series 70 and the hammer has always had even wear.

The CZ and Colt are 2 totally different animals so there's no way to compare how the parts mesh on the 2 different action types. I would contact CZ-USA and let them review the pics of the gun and get their opinion on it.

Hammer wear does look unusual ,something is out of straight angle, either hammer itself or the back of your slide where hammer hits it.
I don’t think Colt is a completely different animal in this particular case, 90 degree angle is 90 degree angle whether it’s Colt or Cz, plus Colt is owned by CZ now.

I would contact CZ and email them these pics, and get their feedback.  Did you do any mods on your PCR?

The CZ and Colt are different even though 90 degrees is 90 degrees. Providing the slide on the 1911 is machined properly an improperly fitted firing pin stop will cause an uneven wear pattern and is easily corrected by replacing with and properly truing the pin stop.
If the slide is out of true on the CZ then it will need to be machined or replaced. Not saying that's the case as it still could be the hammer or other related parts.
Comparing the OP's gun to my 6 hammer fired CZ's 3 of which are PCR's there is definitely something that CZ needs to address. Mine are all evenly worn across the slide and hammer so I think the OP's gun is out of the norm.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will call CZ tomorrow. I have not made any mods to the gun.  I like to get more round through a new gun before I modify it to make sure there are no problems with the gun.

Thanks Craig

All of my PCR's shows similar uneven wear on the hammer. I think it may be just a coating thickness difference perhaps.

My PCR has the same gap, looks like one side is longer. I think it's supposed to look like that....

For anyone stumbling on this post years from now, here's my response from cz:

"This is normal and like this by design. On a decocker pistol only the right side of the SA hammer hook contacts the sear, the left side of the SA hammer hook interacts with the internal decocking mechanism to allow the hammer to be decocked to safey cock when using the decocking lever."

It's all good!

Thanks for including the response from CZ. It Is by design on decocker models.

I still will call CZ next week and talk to him about the hammer wear and send pictures. There is that uneven wear on the slide where the hammer strikes it that would also point to a hammer that's not sitting parallel to the slide.

Thanks again to all who posted. The amount of knowledge of members on the Forum is truly impressive. Such a valuable resource.

I suppose it could be just a hammer face that was machined completely flat as well, I am not aware of the kinds of tolerances CZ  employs. Again, I have a couple of PCR's that show uneven wear on the hammer face and have had no issues.

I called CZ this morning and they suggested I fill out CZ-USA Warranty Repair Request and include pictures of the wire on the hammer and slide. Their technicians would evaluate the pictures and if there appeared to be a tolerance issue they would do an inspection of the gun to make sure everything was okay. They said it takes 24 to 48 hours normally to evaluate and get back. I will wait to hear back from CZ.

Just receive a return label from CZ USA. They open a warranty claim. Will let you know what they find.
