Little hint wanted: trigger is scratchy
« on: August 02, 2023, 01:03:47 PM »
Hi folks!
Am am restoring an older cz 75 (no B or so, no decocker...) and already did kinda trigger job by polishing a lot of surfaces of that trigger.

There is a little bit of scratchy surface noticable when doing a single action pull: when the hammer is cocked the last millimeters of SA pull feel a little bit scratchy until the break.

When I do the same but hold the hammer completely back (so releasing the tension) then there is scratchy resistance at all - the transfer bar and the other components move crisp and clear.

As a bloody noob: what surfaces did miss out when polishing that trigger?

Any hint is highly appreciated!
Cheers Licht77

Honestly, I was taught that the best way to get it polished up just so is to shoot a few hundred rounds through it. The gun will wear down to where it needs to be and you'll have a wonderful trigger. That has held true for me through 27 CZ's.

A single drop of moly dry lube on the sear surfaces may help quite a bit.

Thanks for the feedback - but even as a reloader: putting a few hundred rounds downrange just to fix the gun is not really that economic :)

So I disassembled that old iron and step by step ruled out the components and surfaces that did NOT create that scratchy feeling.

End of story: problem was the lower part of the sear cage touching the disconnector part of the hammer. There is a very small 90 degree surface that drops the hammer in single action
 mode.

Carefully sanded with 600/2000/3000 without touching the geometry and then polished with a Dremel (5000 rpm, silverline blue, lambhair brush) and voila: an ultrasharp and glassclear wall.

Dunno how to share pics :)

When in doubt, read the instructions: Image Posting Guide in the Important Information ! subforum.
Just as you were previously asked to do.

I reload and I put a few hundred rounds through every pistol I acquire to be certain of function and reliability... Then I go to work. There are quite a few threads here on how to tune and smooth these actions just check the archives. We've seen this story before, it's just what you run into with an old service grade combloc pistol.

Carry a glock?  I did, for awhile, years ago.  Finally decided that if I wanted to see patterns on a target I'd just shoot some buckshot.  My M31 hasn't been out of the safe in about 12 or 15 years.

OP, it's just one of those things given as advice to new members with CZs and scratchy/grabby triggers.  Many want to know what parts to buy, what parts to polish, etc.  The guys that have had more than a couple CZs know that if you practice with them for 1,000 rounds or so the triggers will improve as the parts wear in.  Some people report they don't go to the range and fire a 1,000 rounds, they just lube it up and dry fire right at the house and that also wears the parts smoother.

Not everyone is able to quickly understand an issue with their pistol, take it apart, correct the problem and put it all back together.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

For final finishing of these parts I prefer nail polishing  boards.

Actually a bit 'scratchy' is a pretty easy fix on a CZ - and especially on a B, and once you learn the safety disassembly - not so bad on the PreB.

It is usually the sear cage, or trigger bar.  The CZ is a "push to DA" pistol and seems more prone to grit and stacking when tolerances are out of whack.

I've replaced TBs and in one case a sear cage.  With a decocker it is only worse.

Safety guns can be made smooth as silk normally without a ton of effort.
