new CZ compact mags
« on: August 25, 2023, 04:47:28 PM »
Who makes the new CZ compact mags with the 15 witness holes for CZ? The mags are stamped with CZ, but they are very difficult to load and seem cheaply made, by the sound of the compacting spring wile loading. Maybe the feel will get better after re-loading several times, maybe.

Are you saying they're different than they've been in the past?

AFAIK, Mec-Gar has historically made CZ's CZ-branded mags...

Maybe Colt changed that as a cost-cutting measure?

Are they the ones for the tilting or non-tilting barrel model?

I feel like they do get better and easier to load with time. I’ve been looking for those mags…with the 15 witness holes and can’t seem to defund them. Even the MecGar branded stuff online has been the “3 holes in the side” variants.

They are still made by Mec-Gar and they are good quality mags both the factory CZ stamped versions as well as the aftermarket Mec-Gar version. They can be a bit stiff loading when new but they loosen up. Using a mag loader such as the Maglula is helpful.

My PCR came with one of the 2 magazines with the 15 holes. Now, while loading, I cannot tell any difference between it and the others.

Yes, I use a mag loader and they are still very difficult to load. The black follower also looks slightly different than the Mec-Gar blue follower.

Just use them as normal and they will loosen up eventually. I had some Sig Sauer factory P229-1 mags one time that were so tight when new I thought I'd break my loader getting the final round in but as I said they will loosen up.

Check out ACT-MAG, an Italian magazine manufacturer.

I bought a P01 earlier this year, the mags included were not the typical Mec-gar mags.
They reeked of ACT mag, which I have several of the full size and are top notch.

That's interesting that CZ may have strayed to another magazine source after all these years. I have some ACT mags for a Beretta and they are not in the same league as the Meg-Gar versions I have on hand.

It might be due to a capacity (pun intended) issue with Mec-Gar not being able to provide all of CZ’s needs, especially with the large Czech military contract for the P-10C .

Top right of their webpage, ACT lists CZ75 mags: https://actmagusa.com/ourproduct/#products

Quote
CZ75 9mm 10rd/15rd/17rd

     Make: CZ75
     Caliber: 9mm
     Capacity: 10, 15, or 17 Rounds
     Basepad: Polymer
     Color: Blued
     Construction /Material: Metal

Note that the "Learn More" link returns a bad URL, and that round count holes appear to be every two on the side of the mag, not individual to the rear...

I know Act shows CZ75 mags on their site but the question is are they actually supplying them to CZ?? Pro-Mag makes them too or they used to but we all know they are pure garbage. I'd say if Act is supplying CZ mags then your comment above about Colt looking to cut cost is likely accurate. This would be just the kind of cheap out Colt would do.

Witness holes should be different between the two...
