Frankfort X-10 lack of support
« on: September 08, 2023, 03:56:55 PM »
I had to dismantle the priming system on my Frankfort X-10 press to remove a stuck primer.  A tiny ball which helps index the gear which picks up the primers from the tube and rotates under the brass slipped away from me and last seen bouncing across the garage.  OH SH#T!  After unsuccessfully  looking for it I emailed Frankfort expecting them to send me a new one. BUT NO!  First they asked for pictures....of a lost part, then when I offered to pay for the ball I got this response...

We do not have these parts available for purchase.

Thank you,

DTC Customer Support

Hornady sent me a new e-clip for the priming system in my LnL hours after I sent them an e-mail asking for a new one.

Faced with an unusable press I spent a great deal of time searching the garage floor and four days latter I found it  That is not customer service in my option.

And I can hear the remarks about being able to find my etc,etc....

That's lame.  How are you supposed to maintain your press?  Was it just that specific part or what?

In my experience Hornady has the best customer service for reloading gear.  On multiple occasions, I have reached out to Hornady to purchase spare parts to replace worn parts and they just send them free of charge.  Very friendly and knowledgeable on the phone too!

Now their ammunition department is a different story, I had an issue with Hornady's new 7PRC ammunition being over pressure in my new rifle.  They were quick to blame the rifle and it took a few email exchanges for them to send me a single box of ammunition.  I'm not the only one either, there are two different powders used to make the 7PRC ammunition and the ball powder variant is way over pressure (blew out primer on first firing).

Dillon folks are also super helpful but not as quick to give away parts.  I can't ding them for it as I have a S1050 and it is out of warranty.

Cheers,
Toby

Hornady never runs out of warranty, yes they have been great.  Maybe when the rush for the X-10 dies down a little sanity will return.

I launched a detent ball for an obsolete 22 rifle, but found it 2 hours later, then promptly launched it again.  Three days cleaning out boxes on some shelving, I found it.  Those little balls can be a devil to find, luckily I was able to locate two used balls and some springs so I’d never have to repeat this again.  It never hurts when the rifle performs flawlessly now.

I had one experience with FÃ customer support, and it was flawless.  They replaced an Intellidropper free of charge and didn’t want the dead one back.  Apparently they are different at different times.  I’ll still use their products despite hearing about less than satisfactory outcomes that others have experienced.

I do this simple trick to prevent this and save me hours of searching....

Whenever I deal with small parts, especially springs and balls (things that can launch themselves) I apply a dab of universal grease to the receptacle which holds them in place.
