SP01 vs 97B
« on: September 13, 2023, 02:24:39 PM »
Hello all,

My 97B has quickly become my favorite CZ. I have a Shadow 2, and it is easier to shoot accurately, but I am not a competitor. For a home defense gun, I think the 97 trigger is just about perfect.

A question to those of you that have a 97 and an SP-01: Is the stock SP-01 pretty similar to the stock 97? If I wanted a 9mm version of the 97, would the factory SP-01 be close? In particular, a similar trigger would be what I am looking for.

Thanks,
-pg

Internals are the same, ergos are noticeably different. Stock trigger should feel very similar with the potential for some variance due to CZ's manufacturing tolerances from one gun to the next.

I have both.  Needed to do a reach reduction kit and put a ‘flat’ cgw trigger on the 97 to make it close to the SP-01.  I won the trigger lottery with my SP-01. It has the nicest trigger out of the box of any CZ I bought new. It is completely stock and is my nightstand pistol. 19+1 +p rounds at my disposal should the need arise.

My response is purely subjective. For reference the 97B has the stock wood grips and the SP-01 has the stock rubber grips. Minor but similar mods or changes to both internally.

The 97B feels slightly larger and heavier in hand. But I like the "feel" better. I usually wear a 10, 11 or L or XL glove. The SP-01 seems to be quicker to aim though. It could be the way the grips fit my hands and the angle they come to rest in. The 97B trigger was a little better out of the box. I think the balance is the SP-01 is a little better.

I'm not sure I'd consider the SP-01 the full size 9mm equivalent of the 97B but I do think if you like one you'll enjoy the other.
CZ's: 97B, SP-01, P-01, Scorpion Evo 3 S1.

got both. 97 feels more comfortable: it is my go-to carry for when I need to wear a suit. I use a leather shoulder harness: it is by far the most comfortable way of carrying a full-size pistol, especially when you need to be hopping in and out of a vehicle. In and out, in and out, in and out. Sheesh  ::).

SP-01 feels about the same, although the grip is not as comfy as 97. Here's why I am currently training to transition to SP-01:

  • better part availability due to still being in production
  • light attachment
  • large capacity magazine(low on my list)

In everything else, they're very similar

Hells yeah, someone else that carries shoulder! I totally prefer shoulder because of the reasons you listed.
There are +2 mage ext that will work for the CZ97. Henning.
you can have a rail added to the 97.
Here is a good comparison video I posted on RUMBLE a while ago - where gun guys can actually be free to post cool stuff...I also have detailed 3 phase SAO conversion on the 97.
