Loose Kadet upper
« on: October 29, 2023, 12:04:12 PM »
About five months ago I picked up an original Kadet (full gun) and have enjoyed shooting it but I have noticed the accuracy is not that great. Even though shooting it for fun is ok I would like to get a little more accurate with it. The upper is loose on the frame and I mean loose. I did notice it after I cleaned it when I first got it but at that time it didn't bother me. Now the question is how can I tighten up the upper to frame fit so it can at least get a little more accurate and have smaller groups? I know I'm not the best shooter but others better have tried shooting it and it still did not perform the way I'm sure it could. Thank you for looking.

Redhemi,

Have you tried to fit it on another frame?

I think during the initial fitting process, more material was inadvertently removed.  See picture below.

I would try to build back some material using J-B Weld and refit it to the frame.

The other place is the barrel lug area where it sits in the frame, which will be harder to work on.

First thanks for the reply and idea of the J-B weld. I should have thought of it considering I used it on the barrel lug of my Bull Shadow to make it work on my 97b frame. Also I will say it is not a Kadet 2 kit that I could put on another frame even though I could it's one of the Kadets that first came out as a full 22 pistol and would like to keep it together. I bought it from the original owner who put a lot of rounds through it. When I first got it home and cleaned it I would say he had not cleaned it in years. I was thinking about how I possibly could shim the barrel lug but haven't come up with a way yet. Here's the Kadet I have.

The barrel is hard pinned to the slide, if the barrel retaining pin is not sheared, it doesn't matter much how loose the slide is on the frame, as the sights and barrel are one solid assembly.

Mine is sloppy loose on the frame, and was my bullseye match gun for years.  It was good for 1.5" groups at 25 yards, single hand standing.

Clean the barrel, find some Norma Match ammo, and shoot it again, after you make sure the barrel is tight in the slide.

I will look into that thank you.
