I have a P-06 and a 97BD that I like to shoot but I can't see anymore and want to add a dot.  Since both are discontinued am I Dumb to modify the slides?  Should I keep those as collectors and get a new pistol Optic ready?   Maybe start with a P-09 or just get a P-10 OR.

Carry gun (concealed carry) or range/plinking gun?

If I was going to carry it concealed I'd pick a PCR or P01 to get one similar to your BD models.

For a range toy a P09 would be awesome.

And no, I wouldn't mill a P06.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I wouldn't mill a P06 either. Dead caliber, poor capacity, and decent collector value. I would just buy and mill a P01 if you're married to the platform.

Have you considered a fiber optic front sight? I've found a red fiber optic front sight to be extremely helpful as my sight has diminished with age. This is something that could be added to either gun without modification and could easily be swapped back. Like has been said I would not mill that P-06 or any other gun which has the potential to increase in value.

I agree with others not to modify your P06.  Since you mentioned getting another CZ or an OR, that would be a good route.

As one old-eyeballed newbie to another, I would not alter that gun.  I'm trying to decide between getting a PCR and a P-01 now.  Leaning toward a P-01.

One “old-eyeballed” here waiting for a milled P-01 back from the machinist.

If the OP decides on a PCR, he will lose the use LCI post-milling.  Can’t go wrong with either one or any CZ for that matter.

Just remembered about dot optics.

The way the red/green dots look to me says I have astigmatism.  No matter how I twist/turn my head the 2 MOA Holosuns are squirrely looking against a target.  Not a dot, just squiggle/twirly starbursts.

But the 6 MOA K series (also smaller and a better match to the width of the P01/PCR/even CZ75 slides) Holosuns have a bigger and much nicer, rounder, more focused dot.  Just something to consider.  When I get my M&P Shield .40 S&W slide milled for a dot it'll likely be the K series Holosun.  I'm one of those guys who doesn't care about the window size because I'm not looking at the window, just where the dot is on the target.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Thanks for all the help and thoughts.  I will try fiber on the p06

Still want a new dot ready unit.  Optic ready P10c at $385?

Or spend $150 more to make p09 optic ready
Or spend $250 more to make p07 optic ready
Or spend $400 more to make p01 (when in stock)

Any grip mods or slip ons to make O9 not so boxy?

For me, the P09 doesn't feel as good in my hand/grip as the CZ75 models or the M&P striker fired guns.  But it still shoots better than any of them.  I know we all talk about what feels good in our hands and how nice it is to have a gun that "fits".  It just doesn't seem to make the P09 shoot any worse for me because it feels blocky/square in my hand vs. the other two.  Same for the P07.

CGW milled my PCR for a direct mount 507K-2 Green. Sits low and pretty. Search CGW here Oct. 6 2021 for pics

I am wrestling with the same dilemma on my PCR.  I have been running some cost figures and talking with Stuart at CZ Custom (who has been very helpful).

At 77 and after three eye surgeries, the old orbs just are not what they once were.  I have become a big fan of optical sights on my pistols.

This would be easier if CZ offered slides for sale like some other manufacturers.

If these are range guns and you’re not going to be carrying them I would look at replacing the rear sight with an optic mount. I have them on a 97 and a Phantom.  Lots of rounds — no issues — low cost. I have a P10C OR with cowitness sights for CCW and once you get use to RDS you’ll want all your handguns to have them. Unfortunately I don’t have that much money or a milling machine. These give you a low cost option to keep old guns from becoming safe queens.

I had a similar problem in wanting a Green dot optic. None of my CZs (75b, 97b, P-01 Omega) had milled slides.

I solved that problem with a Masada Slim 9mm. Optics ready, very well-made, and takes CZ75 magazines. I'm happy. For $400 I have a great carry pistol.
