Man My P10 Chewed Up My Palm
« on: December 13, 2023, 01:09:43 PM »
I put about 200 rounds through my P10 yesterday and the back strap rubbed my hand raw.  Has anyone else experienced this?  If so, do you have a remedy to lessen the abrasion on the grip texture?

If it bothers you that much then you can take some fine sand paper and lightly rub over the areas that bother you. Don't go over board with it because you can't reverse it.

I have done that with several.  Plastic is easy and just knock off the sharp bumps.  You usually can't ever see you have done it.  On my steel 1911's I use 400 grit paper and then some 2000 grit to finish.  Then cold blue.  My hands are old and soft now.

Same here.  I knocked off the points of the back straps and some of the frame on every P-10 I have.  But much more crudely and with less finesse than most people probably.  I have absolutely no problem modifying polymer framed pistols and defacing the heck out of them if the changes work for me.

You did ask if anyone had that problem.
I meant the texture didn’t appear abrasive to my palm.  Guess I have man hands!!!  J/K

Try the sand paper or install rubberized grip tape.

Back straps are replaceable. Sand a little at a time until it feels right. If you screw up you can buy another one and start again.

I actually get a lot of mean comments on my YouTube channel about the modifications.  The comments are silly.  I use lots of Sugru and JBWeld on my polymer guns and a little even on the steel ones.  Here is a P-10C, for example.

"Resale value may have been diminished due to modifications"  yep, sure it has.  All my resale concerns go out the window the first time I shoot my desecrated firearms at 100-200 yards.

If you want to change something on the grip, can you remove the Sugru?

I am not sure.  It can be trimmed with a knife, but it is pretty darned sticky, so It isn't like it will just peel off.  I think I have some on one gun that is close to 8 years old, looks exactly the same as the day after it was applied.

A question...WHICH P10?  M,S,C or F?

Were you shooting +P rounds?

Have you considered wearing shooting gloves?
Those in the military regularly wear gloves to shoot hundreds of rounds.

How's your grip strength?
If you've got a loose grip it can contribute to excessive rubbing of the backstrap on your palm.
Take a look at Jerry Mikulek (world champion shooter) in his videos.
It is reported that he has the grip strength of a Silverback Gorilla.
I haven't ever seen him wear gloves to shoot with on calibers up to .50.

Just some suggestions to help improve your shooting experience.

I have the F model that I just got, went to the range and loved the flat shooting, and no issues with the stippling on the grip, the 300 rounds felt great.
