OK good news, I now have 2 mags for it - I ordered the mec-gar 10-round on ebay, and the FFL when I picked up the pistol had a 15 rounder which I picked up.   Mechanically everything seems good and oily, but lots of light and not so light rust.  I'll definitely be boiling and/or derusting it soon.

Am making good progress with it.  Getting the ambidextrous slide safety out was tough.  Had to make a 3/64 inch pin punch from filed down music wire.  Was able to ease the detent on the safety for smoother action.  I did 2 to 3 boils and carding on the slide and frame.  Still some light pitting still exists, but am hoping it will disappear when I sandblast for parkerizing

The existing grips feel good even though they don't quite fit. Am using jb weld on them for a more positive fit.  I did a reassembly so when I do it after the refinish I'll be less likely to mar it.

Those Grips are not the correct ones for it. I recommend you find something else for it.

Did you ever figure out the magazine situation? I have a 93 tanfo small frame and bought a 10 round mag on eBay. It works!

Apologies for the late update to all who helped give me some great info on this fine (but well used) pistol.   Here is a photo of it after I finished the parkerizing and reassembled it.  I parked the frame, slide and mag release.

Overall I was very happy with the process. Polished a couple of the firing mechanism wear surfaces and it runs nicely.  I shot 2 boxes without a hiccup.  Shoots to the right so I may need to adjust sight, but am very happy with it.

And the 10 round mecgar works great.  My other is an unknown 15 round and it works great too.
