Help identifying old pistol
« on: December 30, 2023, 02:48:40 PM »
This pistol was found in my uncles house when he passed away. Im having a hard time identifying exactly what model it is. Its looking similar to the CZ24 but i don't see any with four serrations on the slide, I only see them with five. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Under the four serrations on the rear left of the slide , which are angled forward is the number 30

On the left side of the frame in front of the trigger is written number 32

Above the right side grip on the frame is written CSP

Top of slide has written CESKA ZBROJOVKA A.S.v praze 6952

The story goes that my grandfather brought it home from WWII but that all we know.

Trying to get photos posted but having a hard time sorry.

Welcome.

If you'd taken a few moments to familiarize yourself with all the sticky posts in the 'New Members' section and the other forums, together with the Help Topics in the 'Important Information' or 'FAQ' sub-section, you would have found a full explanation of how to post pictures on the forum.

In Know Your Czechoslovakian Pistols (R. J. Berger - 1989) the Vz 27 photos show 4 serrations (pp 41-56).

Per Berger, CSP - Czechoslovak Government Postal System (p. 95)

Production of the Vz 27 began in 1927.
The year produced is usually on the slide so "30" means 1930.

From Berger (p. 43)...
Quote
The pistol was put on the market primarily as a commercial product for
civilians and police.  The vz 27 did not achieve any great success during the
pre-World War II period.  The world depression and cheaper Spanish
imports, were too much competition. Although some were sold commer-
cially and some to various Czechoslovak police and other goverment agen-
cies, such as Customs and the Postal Service, by 1938, fewer than 15,000
had been sold.

Nearly all examples have "Pistole Modell 27  Kal. 7.65" on the left side of the slide, so yours must be an early one.
Mine has "fnh" before this slide text so it was made during the German occupation of the factory.

Per Berger, of all of the model years the Vz 27 appears to have the most variants due to the tumultuous events from 1927-1945.

Interestingly enough mine has no proof marks or dates anywhere and has a high S/N...I figure it was made in 1945.
