Plastic VS Metal guide rods for P10's
« on: January 10, 2024, 10:57:56 AM »
Hi everyone.

I was pondering an interesting topic last night after reviewing several posts and YouTube videos. Without considering recoil levels, do you all agree that the plastic/polymer original guide rods for P10-C is better than the metal guide rods if you don't need the less recoil?

The reason I ask is because while some people claim the plastic ones are not as durable or "smooth" as polished metal guide rods for the spring to glide, I have read that CZ has stated they believe it's better to use plastic guide rods because if you use a metal one, it can cause "chatter" and beat up the frame rails or the slide. But since plastic guide rods are much cheaper to produce than metal ones, I have a small amount of healthy skepticism to at least ponder this topic.

In other words, it sounds like the engineers at CZ believe that the small amount of flex in the plastic guide rods help avoid stress on the frame guide rails. This is a very important consideration that NONE of the Youtuber's who put metal guide rods on their guns mention.

What do you all think?  My intention is to have the most reliable/functional P10-c.  So should I keep the plastic guide rod?

Glock also uses plastic guide rods. However, Glock also uses cheap plastic sights and magazines to save money (or maybe save weight). So again, I'm torn on what to believe.

Once again we pound the poor horse further into the ground. The guide rod has nothing at all to do with the rails. The guide rod keeps the recoil spring running in as straight a line as possible so it doesn't bunch up when shooting the gun. I use metal whenever that option is available. There's nothing wrong with the plastic if you want to keep it. The bean counters not the engineers settled on plastic as is almost always the case. Plastic=cheaper to make than metal.
I've never experienced any adverse effects in any of my many CZ's from using the metal guide rods and I shoot thousands of rounds per year.
I actually have a P10C that came with a captured metal guide rod from the factory and one that came with a captured plastic guide rod from the factory.

Ah interesting,

That's disappointing if CZ is lying then.  (I didn't get the response from CZ directly but someone else claims CZ told them that plastic guide rods give "flex" and avoid "chatter" and even damage to the frame/rails.

If what you are saying is true, that you see no chatter or damage from having a non flexible guide rod, then my suspicion that the bean counters are just saving money like the plastic sights on Glocks is very disappointing as I expect better from CZ.  Their pistols are supposed to be duty level quality and last.

I guess CZ copied Glock after all. LOL.  At least we get full metal magazines though and a very thick barrel. And the full wrap around release inside the grip is nice.

Do you recommend a very durable, quality guide rod and spring then if I want to get a metal one for my P10 C please?

Plastic guide rods are nothing new as far as CZ goes. They have used them in most of their other pistols for years and they seem to do just fine. I did find it odd to get 2 different P10C's with metal and plastic guide rods both made this year too.
At any rate if you want to go metal here is a link to the parts Cajun Gun Works have:
https://cajungunworks.com/product/97040-fits-p-07/
https://cajungunworks.com/product/15rs-recoil-spring-for-p-0709/

You can also cut the end off the captured plastic guide rod that came with the gun and use the recoil spring on the metal rod if you want too.
