Any grip differences between CZ 75 Pre B and CZ 75 B?
« on: January 28, 2024, 08:29:32 AM »
Possibly a stupid question, but since B magazines do not fit Pre B models, I'm afraid to spend money on something that may or may not fit.

I am going to use my Pre B in IDPA and am considering some G10 grips, but open to wood. I have rubbers on it now, but the magazines stick, and so far I haven't sanded it down to point where they will drop free. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Well, placed an order for some inexpensive ones on Amazon, I'll report if I have any fitment issues.

If the Pre B CZ75 and the Pre B CZ85 use the same grips then the newer grips should fit fine.

I bought the soft rubber grips for my Pre B CZ85 and they fit/worked fine.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

75B grips have fit nicely on all of my pre-b's. Shadow 2 grips work as well, and are narrower at the top. 75b mags don't drag on the grip panels, they drag/catch front to back. You can try OEM SP01 mags, they often work in pre-b's without filing on the frame...though there is some variability from one pre-b to another.

Well, I just got new grips and the mag gets stuck. This is frustrating. Apparently the frame is a little thinner or something, but I have no grips I can use with my Pre B at the moment. Grrrrrrr.

If anyone owns a 1980s era Pre B and knows who makes grips for sure that work, please let me know. That means YOU own a Pre B, and YOU bought new grips and YOU can get your mags in. I’m not interested in speculation, coulda, shoulda, wouldas, or “I heard that …”

Mine are Coolhand G10 grips from Amazon. At least they were not expensive.

Thanks!

Do your mags fit WITHOUT the grips in place? If so you simply need to do some sanding on the inside area of the grip panels. This is an issue that has come into play with "B" models just as well as pre B models.
You also need to understand that when dealing with vintage firearms such as this often times parts just don't "drop in" and fit perfectly due to the fact that these are service grade guns with very wide tolerance variations. Even the newest and most modern arms often require fitting of parts due tolerance stacking/variation.
The simple solution for you is to lay a fine sheet of sand paper on as flat a surface as you can find and sand the inside of each panel slowly till they reach the point that you can screw them into place and not bind your mags up. I've been here and done it with more than a couple CZ's.

THANK YOU!

Now I know I'm not crazy. I was beginning to doubt myself. Yes the mags fit without the grip panels in place, they drop free just fine. Also, interestingly, the SP01 18-round grips I purchased also work.

I did get some sandpaper for the rubber grips, so I'm all set there. I am so glad to hear this is not an uncommon problem, the fact you've experienced it makes me more confident. I love the Pre B triggerguard look, but I'm beginning to wonder if I should just buy a B. :D

Edit: they don't bind until they are 80% of the way in, so I don't think it will take much sanding with these.

I have 3 PCR's and a 75B compact. I like the factory rubber grips best of all so that's what I went with on those 4 guns. The rubber grips all fit each gun perfectly but the 75B compact had to have it's grips sanded down some. I tried every panel from all 4 sets of grips and none would fit that compact without fitting. I also had to do some fitting of the grips on my full size 75BD. This is just one of those variances we run into sometimes.
