N310 for 9mm anyone
« on: February 05, 2024, 10:32:50 PM »
Any of you wise veterans have an opinion on this powder?

Its speed waved me off years ago. Fastest I've used is Titegroup, Bullseye.

As I posed on an earlier thread, I'm looking for PF 105 load (my target is PF 110 for margin) with excellent accuracy, low ES and SD. I judge this requires a 'full burn' to achieve solid chamber seal, which isn't happening using lighter charges with the powder and bullet combos I used at PF of 127-130. That was Titegroup, 231, N320 mostly.

Vhit lists loads using N310 with bullets from 90-147gr. These listed velocity ranges numbers fit my PF quest goals.  Noteworthy is the fact that there aren't many loads for N310 compared to the usual suspects (N320, N340). With one exception, there is just ONE load for using N310 for each bullet weight.

If I do move forward, I'll be safely obedient in the load work-up process of course. Assuming I can find some N310.

But I wondered if anyone here has direct experience.

Best,

C

• N310 is great in lower pressure cartridges, like standard 45ACP and 38 Spcl.

• It is also extremely good in 'blow back' operated handguns, like the bulk of 25ACP and 32ACP offerings.

N320 barely makes PF125 for competition, therefore we can assume that N310 is too fast for that purpose in all but the lowest PF plinking rounds.

With your stated goal of PF105 however, that may be in that range using N310. Experiments by you would be required to find out. You will not find these type loads listed in any manual because these are not mainstream loads.

For example, a lot of IPSC shooters use 147gr bullets over "fast powders", such as TiteGroup. You won't find many (if any) of those loads published in load manuals. Those are not loads that mainstream shooters are wanting. Does Hodgdon have that information? Most likely, but you'd need to call their USA-based help line. I don't think that's possible with VhitaVuori.

I haven't used it but it may be what you need with the 110 PF bunny fart loads you are chasing.

Cheers,

Please do. And begin a new thread when you do entitled: Load Testing: VihtaVuouri N320 powder

And I'll add some of my 32ACP loads to it.

It will be a great addition to our powder testing.
