EDC Ammo Choice

I’m going to work my recently Cajunized PCR into my EDC system.  I’m new to CZ’s but not new to daily CCW and carried for work for years. This week I’m going to test fire Hornady’s 135grn +p Critical Duty FTX round. I don’t plan a steady diet of theses, I use 115grn ball for my training, but have had very good success with Hornady’s Critical Defense rounds in other pistols. I’m also going to test the Critical Duty in my Glock 19.

I’m curious what those of you who EDC your 75 Compacts are using for your loads?

Gold Dot 124gr +P in my PCR

Every January, I shoot the ones I carry and replace with same. That's clearly a small sample size but I've never had any kind of malfunction.

I keep hoping they will go back to pre-pandemic pricing but this inflation is stubborn.

These guns naturally prefer the more rounded ogive of the Federal and Speer offerings.

The conical ogive shapes from Hornady should be verified by...
• A "plunk & spin test"*, and
• Test shooting at least 1 mag full

Wobbly - THANK YOU for the reply and the link!  Just went down and ran the Plunk & Spin Test and one of my factory defensive ammos failed. Very appreciative of learning about that prior to testing carry rounds. I’ll post a range report after I’ve run some mags.

I've always had good results with Federal HST 124 grain stuff.

I don't carry it now but I used to carry a CZ75 Compact or my black P01 Omega.  Both shoot 115 grain ammo very well.  Federal 115 grain FMJ for the range and PD 115 grain hollow points over a compressed charge of Blue Dot.

When I was working with a 2.0 M&P 5" 9MM I bought several brands/bullet types of ammo trying to find something that shot nice groups and I distinctly remember my P01 did terrible with Winchester 147 grain hollow points.  The kind of groups you really shouldn't take a picture of if you don't need it for your records.  Tried some 147 grain reloads with two or three kinds of powder and still didn't get anything to write home about.

I need to work on some 124 grain loads as many people say those do well in the CZ 9MM pistols, too.

Atlanta Arms 115gr JHP, same as I shoot at 100 and 200 yards.  I know the zero is and I know how well it runs in the three pistols I sometimes carry.  And I shot the carry guns regularly.

For the last 12 years or so I have carried Liberty Civil Defense 50grain 9mm with 440 ftlbs energy in my 75 compact. Once I started with these bullets I quit carrying .45 or 10mm as side arm when hog hunting. These rounds are devastating. A shot to the back of the head blows brains out the nose.

I've always had good results with Federal HST 124 grain stuff.

I too like Federal HSTs and have shot and carried 124 HSTs extensively in my P-01 and PCR.

I went to a Sig P365 for carry and use 147 HSTs in that. Not sure if they'd function well in my CZs.

Before HSTs came to market, I carried Speer Gold Dot 124s, which are also excellent defensive/duty ammo.
