CZ 52 and Tokarev ammo questions

I just picked up a cz 52 that has not been re-arsenaled. Next to a target 22LR 7.5 inch bull barrel buckmark, it’s probably the most accurate gun i shot. I cannot get over the group I was able to shoot with the first mag. I had never shot a gun in 7.62x25 or this model. It’s a friggen laser. I live in NY so getting ammo for anything is a royal pain. I only bought 1 box of Ficco to the tune of 65 bucks for a box of 50. I ordered some PPU and am waiting for that to come in. I know PPU is not know for its quality. Does anyone have any experience with recent production PPU 7.62x25? How does it cycle? What type of groups are you getting at 10 yards?

I’m relatively new to reloading. Aside from having to lube the cases before resizing is it more difficult to load for the 7.62x25 bottle neck than a straight walled case like 9mm?  Are there any tips and tricks anyone would be willing to share?  Thanks!

• Like the 9x18 Makarov, these were imported back in the 1990's with lots of cheap ammo that quickly got sold. The cheap ammo was really one of the selling points.

• Unlike the original Russian ammo, the PPU ammo will be Boxer primed and can be reloaded. Reloading may be the only inexpensive way forward.

• About every 4 years some new owner asks the same question. Start with a SEARCH of this forum.

Fun pistols to shoot. Since you seem to be new to the CZ52, one important thing to know. Do NOT dry fire these pistols. if your example has an original firing pin in it (likely,) it should not be dry fired without a snap-cap or such in place. The original firing pins have a reputation for being brittle. I've never broken one but I also never dry fire the pistol. For what It's worth....

I have been shooting a 52 using ppu ammo for a number of years and find it to be very reliable and accurate. The cam rollers should be replaced and there are also firing pin upgrades which eliminates the breakage problems.  I think the company is named Harrington Products.  They also make a very nice slide release.  Enjoy!
