Hammer malfunction
« on: March 19, 2024, 10:41:13 AM »
Hi,
I own a CZ 75 compact DA/SA PCR. It has an Apex trigger enhancement kit installed by my gunsmith at Apache Rifleworks. It was my first EDC weapon. This trigger kit is the only mechanical thing that has been done to this pistol, other than some Dawson night sites. My current EDC is a CZ RAMI.

The hammer on my PCR occasionally will lock in the firing position and I cannot cock it, hence I cannot rack the slide. Not good for a carry gun. It's an intermittent problem. My go to gunsmith checked it out and could not reproduce the problem or offer a possible solution.
Before I take it to another gunsmith I was hoping for some help from the members. I haven't reached out to any CZ gunsmiths as of yet.

Thank you,

Chris

First thing that comes to mind is to be sure your hammer disconnector pin is not inadvertently backing out. It should be friction fit or staked so that it’s flush with the pin hole at all times

Barring having something impeding the action (crud), this is my first thought as well.

Cheers,

would have to say one of the #9 pins used for the disconnector. it not staked it can move and stick the hammer and bind up the action. Make sure both pins are staked in the hammer.

Got my TekMat for CZ 75 out to identify the hammer pins.
The hammer is currently LOCKED DOWN. The last time the happened manipulating the slide freed up the hammer.
Question: Should I leave it as is to show the gunsmith? I can free the hammer by rapidly moving the slide. The gunsmith has told me that he needs to see the gun while it’s showing the malfunction.

Thanks!
Chris

I think in order to be able to confirm this is the problem you are going to have to pull he sear cage out.  This is fairly straight forward but can be daunting the first time you do it.  If you aren't comfortable gunsmithing, then I would take it back to the gunsmith in the current state.

I checked my PCR in with my gunsmith. When he first checked it, the hammer cocked as it should. Frustrating! During the check in process, the hammer would not cock. The gunsmith was able to see what I was telling him firsthand.
He pulled out the Apex trigger enhancement kit and checked all the pins. Nothing out of the ordinary. No excessive wear. I don't know if he pulled the sear cage. He re-installed the trigger kit. Shot 50 rounds with zero malfunctions.
He can not explain why the hammer is acting that way. I will pick up the gun this week.

Thanks Toby!

Chris

I picked up my PCR on Tuesday. Apparently I had been using a tad bit too much oil on the frame and side rails. Hammer was jammed up as a result. They also did a deep cleaning. Lesson learned.

Your oil became gummy?? From long term storage? Oil brand?
I've shot many oil wet firearms, never have experienced this problem as long as the lube is fresh.

Yeah, curious about "too much oil".  I even put oil on striker guns where they say not to oil.  Zero issues so far.

And, to remove the trigger, trigger bar, etc. I think you do have to remove the sear cage.  If I'm wrong, let me know.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
