Range Holster (move this if there is a better place for it)
« on: April 03, 2024, 12:34:20 PM »
Looking for some type of Universal Holster for basic Range use. Nothing to be drawn from but some thing so as to not leave a firearm unattended when going down range. Thinking some thing basic like a surplus Military style flap holster with belt loops . Needs to be large enough for a TS2 with RDO and Thumb rest. Closed bottom so a snub nosed S&W Air weight doesn't fall out. Not really wanting a shoulder bag or back pack. Any thoughts ?

Uncle Mike's makes quite a few 'universal' holsters in several sizes, like their "Sidekick" line. Not ideal for daily carry, but fine for your purpose.
The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Thanks,  they where one of my first thoughts.  Haven't seen one locally and their web site makes no mention of being compatible with a RDO.

How does a holster alleviate your concern(s) about "leav[ing] a firearm unattended when going down range"?

Uhm, because it will be on his hip when he walks down range to the targets?

I assume.

Cheers,

That is my concern at our Outdoor Range. I'm not going back to the parking lot to secure the firearm in my vehicle so I can go down range and reset or change targets. Carrying targets, stapler , pasters or what ever is enough.
Seems like my range time is limited so may take more than a couple of pistols. Two may work with my CC holster. A universal would just seem handy and be one less thing to distract from training.
Having more access to an Indoor Range would change everything.

Not a big fan of floppy-soft sided holster so a CompTac or some other reputable Kydex holster with a paddle for the one gun and maybe a hard shell tool box with a good lock and cable to attach it to the bench for what ever else you have with you at the range?

I dont go to a range anymore (shoot in my backyard), but I can see wanting a holster. I wouldnt walk downrange and leave a $1000 or more gun alone, not knowing the other shooters.

If you are asking about my backyard setup, its 3 layers of railroad ties deep, 6 high.
I have a shooting bench set back at 65 yards (property line) which works great for 22 rifles
For pistols, I just stand wherever I want.
