I was having a problem with 1st shot hitting high at 100 yards after a slide lock reload.  The chamber end of the barrel had about 0.008" vertical play and I had been shooting the pistol with the factory captured guide rod since loosing my CGW non-captured guide rod in the shop several weeks ago.  I got the replacement guide rode yesterday, added a shim to take some of the vertical out, and got to shoot the gun today.  With the shim, it took a few rounds to get the 100 yard zero back in the ball park.  We also had some wind today and I struggled some to get any good groups even if they were high.

After 45 rounds, I finally settled down and quit messing with the sight adjustments.  Here is a video of the last 5 shots, without any dead time cut out, since the video is short anyway.

I did shoot another 15 rounds but my eyes were getting fatigued by then and the wind was picking back up, so no more video coverage.
I am going to mess with the P-10C next, either tomorrow or Thursday.

This is fun.  This is not easy.

Thanks.  I was looking through the scope and saw some fresh holes in the 9 ring, but, at the time, I wasn't sure what the sequence was.  I threw one or two shots off a little of the five before the five in the video, otherwise I would have shown you a 10 shot video.

And I really struggled for maybe 30 rounds before this sequence.  You will never get to see that video.  I'm going back this morning and will shoot with my favorite Atlanta Arms ammo, after a sight adjustment.

Joe, where did you put the shim?  Barrel end?  or back at the chamber end of the barrel?

And, as usual, that's an awesome 100 yd group.  Heck, I'm not sure I could shoot a 25 yd. group like that these days.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

When I first saw this vertical spread on my P-10C, I thought the shim needed to go on the bottom of the barrel when it mates with the front locking block.  But that surface is subject to too much sliding forces and friction and it would not have lasted long at all.  This position for the shim is perfect, as it is only subjected to clamping as the barrel rises up against the underside of the slide.  The shim could almost be held in place with Elmer's glue.  It has to be smooth with no burrs but not perfect.  The goal is consistency in getting the barrel to exactly the same position in the slide for every shot.  If the barrel sits 1 mil lower on the first shot, the first shot will be high by roughly 1 inch at 100 yards.  So 8 mil slop can result in 8 inches high at 100.   If you put a shim in that is too thick, you can't even get the slide back on the frame.  It need to be just thick enough to still allow the gun to be assembled easily yet not have any measurable slop.  THEN I have to keep the gun very clean at the contact points or it will jam up...maybe.  Which is why they are never tight from the factory.  I think.
