What have I done!
« on: May 06, 2024, 06:03:35 PM »
Facebook post pops up.. "foster needed for bottle fed kittens."

Our cat of 17 years died last year. The wife and I talked about fostering bottle fed kittens. We have a conure so we really didn't want to bring a cat in the house.

Soo.... I get to jpaws and the lady says..

"we have three 4week old kittens and two 2week old kittens"

I say... "yes"

She says "all 5?"

And I says

"yes"

The 4week olds took to the bottle and now sleeping.  The 2week olds won't stop meowing and don't seem to be grabbing the bottle to well. They did drink a bit.

Well looks like I got some long nights ahead. Lol

I bottle fed 3 kittens when the mother disappeared. Yes, I really did. When you do this, you actually become their "mother". Two went to my SIL and one stayed with us. Unfortunately, something got it early on, really sad. We always have barn cats, 3 right now that are actually pets....but most are employees, some more part time than others.
It's not saving any water if you have to flush it over and over....

Aha! Enjoy being a failed foster, because I'll bet one or more of them are gonna grow on you. I only have one cat left, but she's young and very healthy.

One of the two week old kittens just passed. He was a bit on the weak side compared to his sibling. He was doing pretty good today. Finally got it to latch on to the bottle and drinking a bit of milk. I hope the other one makes it.

The 4weekers are doing great though. They really woke up today vs how they looked yesterday. Drink milk, poop, sleep, wrestle. Lol... Living the dream.

Oh, MEAAANNNNN!!!!!!!! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

I love it when your plan comes together!

I raised "my" current cat from that situation also.  She was so young that I even needed to stimulate her for the bathroom stuff.  She was very young, half frozen ( hair gone on back half of body and all of tail), pretty rough shape.  Now, she is pretty much my cat only, and hates the rest of humanity......mostly  ;) .

I guess I should update... We returned them back to the shelter a few weeks ago to get neutered and put up for adoption.

Im happy to say that they were only up for adoption for a few days and all 3 got adopted together by the same family.

I will admit it was hard to take them back, my wife was a wreck. The house has felt very empty since they have been gone.

We do plan on fostering again but it's hurricane season and want to wait till after it's over with.

Good job, Whereisit!  I'm not a cat guy because of allergies, and can only be near some dogs.  We have had a labradoodle and a goldendoodle and those are ok.  But a cat will send me to the hospital with asthma. I could barely meow last time that happened.  Gunpowder is ok, however.  Nothing but positive reaction to gunpowder!

PS--video coming of this morning's session with the P-10C at 100 yards.  I didn't see any cats this morning.

Great work, Whereisit!  8)  :)

Currently, I'm feeding about six semi-feral Cats, three adults, and three 2 month old kittens. Going to try taming the Kittens and homing them.

Lost my domestic Cat of 16 years, Her Royal Majesty Queen Isis, about three months ago, to illness. Have not decided on getting another domestic Cat as yet.

The three siblings we took home from their foster two weeks ago. Our 17 y/o old man is fading slowly, doesn't eat everyday.  :(
