Barsto 97 threaded barrel. How many dropped in?
« on: June 27, 2024, 11:02:33 AM »
I’m considering a Bar-Sto CZ97 threaded barrel for my 97B. I have read the posts and understand they are sold as semi-fitted user install or match grade gunsmith installation required. I will go with the semi-fitted. I’ve read how they most likely will require material removed from front locking surface to properly lock up.

My question is simply how many have purchased these and had them dropped right in from the get go with no modification?
Thanks for your time.

I don't understand the desire people have with drop in barrels.  If am spending 300 bucks on a barrel I don't want it fit to some unknown quantity.  I want it fit to MY gun.

That said I own 3 threaded barsto 97 barrels all semi fit all needed fitting.

I don't recall seeing any posts here on using a Barsto barrel in a 97.

I have fitted two Barsto barrels in Sig 226 slides and all I needed was a small triangular file and some time.  And those barrels shot great.  I bet you can read a good description of what to expect for the semi-fit install on the Barsto site.  It isn't difficult, just take your time and go slowly with the filing, er, fitting.

Thank you. Thats the kind of info I’m looking for. It was just an exercise in curiosity. I have no issues with the fitting.

Mine required some minor fitting as well.

I have 2 97s and ordered a Barstow threaded barrel for them. They came with instructions for the fitting process. There is a thread in the 97 section on threaded Barstow with very good instructions and illustrations of fitting the barrel. It did take some time (about 4 months) for delivery . Took less than an hour to fit. Until about a month ago I didn't have a suppressor and haven't been able to get to the range yet. Tolerance on my 2 97s was held close enough that when the Barstow barrel fit the used gun it also fit the unfired one.
If you want to suppress a 97 I think Barstow is your only choice and if I remember correctly they offer fitting services.

For barrel fitting, consider using ceramic files and a v-block with clamp.  Go slow and have fun.

Thanks for the suggestion but I’m going to have to use what I have on hand. I have various files but also different grit stones. I’ll gett’r done. Of course I’ll have to purchase the barrel first. That may be a bit. It’s in line behind a few other project purchases.
