On the edge 457 Varmint
« on: July 10, 2024, 04:44:26 PM »
New to the CZ market. Recently got the P01, and am quite pleased with the pistol. Beyond that I have concerns. Problem getting the mainspring, finding the rear sight I wanted was a bit of work. And the support for CZ in the US seems pretty small. I'm on the edge of pulling the trigger on a 457 Varmint but concerned about the lack of support for this brand outside Kansas City. I'm convinced it is a quality piece but for that kind of money am I going to have to wait weeks for everything I might need/want, parts/warranty claims, etc. The price is not really that bad, probably a couple hundred dollars more than lesser brands. "can you tell I'm trying to talk myself into it"? Convince me I'd be happy with a Varmint for 100+ yard bench gun.

I've had no issues getting parts for my CZ handguns and 22LR rifles, but I've not needed to use support services.  I can smith my own firearms and have had very positive experiences with my CZ 455s.  I would not hesitate to pull the trigger on that Varmint if that's what I was wanting.

I'd say if you can get your hands on a 457 Varmint, DO IT. There is plenty of technical support around in the forums and several places have parts to enhance your experience  ;D

Went to my LGS and they had a 457 Varmint. Just not a fan of the wood. They also had a Begara BMR Micro Carbon, liked it less. I put my name in for a Varmint Synthetic but there is no word of when they will be available.

Did you get a chance to look at a 457 Varmint MTR?

I know some people buy almost any 457 and sell the stock and put on something like KRG Bravo or a Boyd's - there are options if you don't want to wait for a synthetic. Just my 2 cents.

A friend just got the MTR and sent me a pic. Beautiful stock, but I'm trying to stay away from pretty. I'm too particular to want to try and keep it pretty. My other long guns are synthetic and we get along fine  ;).
