PCR in local IDPA
« on: September 21, 2024, 04:42:59 PM »
I’ve been shooting my P10 for this season- used it in 2 sanctioned matches and did fairly well.

Decided I needed a change from the striker guns and shot my PCR in our local match.  Came in 7th overall and 2 in my division (CCP).  A good day with my PCR, which ran well , shooting where I aimed it.

I was concerned I needed to swap out my CZC straight 8 style sights, but in the daylight, it was spot on and easy to acquire.  Overall am pleased with. 1 exception, I need to get a lock washer for my grip screw, which was working itself loose.

PCR on top-  cajunized and hard chromed

Nice looking PCR!

I have never shot in an IDPA or any pistol match, but was looking into it as it seems like a great way to practice and matches are welcoming to new shooters.  I have a P-01 with the Cajun Pro Package.  Is this legal to use in CCP Division in an IDPA match?  I read something about the Cajun Race Hammer was not legal, but also something else that said it now is legal.  I couldn't really tell looking at the rules.

I've got to make my way out to watch a match soon.

Thanks

Highly encourage you to give it a try.  Your P01 should fit the CCP “box”.  (My P01 omega doesn’t as the ambidextrous safety/ decocker makes it too wide)

As a general rule, CCP division allows the same mods that ESP div does less size & weight, so your cajunized P01 should be fine.

If you are in Eastern ID, I’d say come join us for a match & I could mentor you along.

Even palmswell grips can make the PCR and P-01 too wide to fit the CCP box. It's a silly limit.

PizzaPizza, Don't let that stop you from participating in a match. Local (Tier 1) matches are very relaxed and welcoming and I've never had a gun measured or weighed at one of those. It's generally only Tier 3 (i.e. State Championships) and higher that do formal equipment checks. Just be aware of the limits if you get more serious about the competition aspect.

IDPA is a lot of fun. I highly recommend it. Steel Challenge is fun too.

Thanks!  I've reached out to a local group in Los Angeles and as you both portray, they were very welcoming.  I'm going to try to get out to see a match as it's cooling down out here while I keep practicing at the range in the meantime.

I currently have Dawson Precision Night Sights on my P-01.  I chose these because I figured the role of this gun would be all around and maybe some day conceal carry.  I'm lucky to belong to an outdoor range, so 99% of my shooting is outside.  I do find it a bit difficult finding the front site if I'm in the shade vs the sun.  I've been thinking I might try a Fiber Optic front site even leaving the rear tritium site in place to see how much better I pick up the site.

Eventually I may go with a red dot, but that may come on another gun that is pre-cut for it.  I may want to leave this P-01 as is.

Any thoughts on defensive sites vs FO?  I know most people seem to go with FO front and blacked rear for competitions from what I read if shooting irons.  Researching things it seems a lot of people carry and use FO in a defensive role as well.

Thoughts on this?  Thanks in advance.

Pizza- sights are like shoes, what fits(works) for you may not fit me even if we are the same size.

At my age, I need a bold front sight and an unadorned rear sight.  FO sights do that & I have several on my various guns to include my P01 Omega and P10c.

My CZ 75b has CZC’s TRUGLO TFX front sight and associated serrated rear u sight, that work for my eyes.

Only potential criticism I may have with this sight is at long distances, the sight’s width may not enable as precise a shot as a narrower front sight.  That said, I had no issues with it at the IDPA and asi matches I shot it at.

Thanks for the info.  Makes total sense.  Beautiful 75B by the way.  I have one as well, though it's dressed in black.
