CZ Cast Frame longevity
« on: January 04, 2025, 08:12:29 AM »
Hello everyone!

Was wondering how long will a CZ cast frame (CZ75B, CZ 75 Compact, SP01) last vs a forged frame pistol.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I think CZ slides are forged while the barrels are hammer forged.

I know that these cast frames are durable lasting in excess of 50k rounds and in some cases, cast frames are more durable than forged frames (eg. Browning Hi-power) but what I was thinking about was longevity. Say in a scenario where you want your kids, grandkids, great-gandkids etc,,, to be able to still enjoy firing these excellent weapons, even if just occasionally.

I think that in this scenario a forged frame gun may be better but what do you think?

Of course it is a given that gun has to be taken care of properly and the finish has to be maintained.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and thanks!

I’ve got 153 problems, but my CZ cast frame isn’t one of them.

The guns will last longer than you will and likely longer than those who might inherit them. Shoot the gun and enjoy it. Unless you can put a quarter million rounds or more down the pipe there's no issue with cast frames on CZ's or any other quality firearm

To me you have alot of time on your hands.  But its your time.

If you live long enough, you will see that there are always excepts.  Ever hear of "lemons".  Same concept.  But there are those that have bought supposedly "lemons" and never had an issue.

i think there was some guy that bought a Volvo? didnt do any PMs to it and it drove over 1 MILLION miles.   It was documented since he was the only owner.

Everyone would LOVE a car like that but in the end, its a pipe dream.  Someone would come out with a different color, new wheels, or somethign different where you would want a different toy.

Also, would your kids/Grand Kids/GGK ..ect appreciate your efforts?

I used to do leatherwork and fix alot of bridles/halters..ect.  Manytimes it was some brass/stainless steel clip that broke.  When i asked them what happen, many said, they dropped the bridle/halter and the snap broke.  Many dont, but its just a matter of "bad" luck.

Over the 40+ years of owning/shooting guns, i have had just about every mfg break in something/place.  My Ruger 1022, the 2nd rifle i bought, has a cracked receiver right near the rear receiver cross pin.  It was that way after the 1st year of use.   On my CZs some of the older 85s slide stop were machined thin and would break.  Its well known on Colt SAAs and the sear breaking and others.

I know this isnt the "frame" or "Slide" but to me, if you look far enough into the future where some guns wont be made anymore, if a frame or slide breaks, thats only 1 part of the problem.  Same with any other part.  If you can't get a spare/replacment its all a nice paperweight.

Ask those that wont have a gun that isnt 1000% or cant get spares (now?).   They wont touch it.

To me, i think you aren't looking at the important picture.  Im not concerned on what my dad can leave me, im more concerned in the memories.   Maybe if you build some memories together shooting that gun i can see having something that lasts. But i know full well is that not many things last forever or your anyones lifetime.  If it does great.

If you want, here's something you can do.  chances are you wont like it.

But whatever gun/toy you want to pass down to your kin, buy 2 or more.  Then just use 1.  keep the others you buy to pass down and in 100% mint condition.  That way they can put the miles on the toy, if they want.

I look on ebay quite often.  Pistol/gun parts. Used stuff mostly.  I don't remember ever seeing a CZ slide/barrel.  M&Ps?  All the time.  I buy stripped slides, complete slides, slides with barrels but not CZ stuff.

Makes me think the CZ upper parts are still in use on the frames except for the people how buy a pistol, pay for custom work to get a big/long slide put on the frame and then sell the original slide/barrel set up.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
