CZ 712 magnum
« on: September 27, 2005, 10:12:06 AM »
Hello all,

I am new to the CZ world but have heard nothing but great things about their handguns and rifles.  However I am in the market for an autoloader shotgun and have been able to find very little on the 712 magnum. :\

The price seems right, can anyone give me a fair review?  How does it compare to other autoloaders you have shot?  How is the reliability?  Etc...

No luck on the search and I apologize if I should have posted this in the "shotgun" section.

            Thanks in advance.

I have recently puchased the standard 28 inch  712 (3 inch non magnum) .  I have shot only about a dozen assorted shells through it with no failure to feed.

This shotgun was purchased at the same time as a defensive SG as an inexpensive way to see if i will become interested enough in sporting clays to spend more on a second gun.  It is obviously a good gun compared a defensive shotgun for actual hunting.

I figure it will make a good back-up or as a primary field carry unit that can take a couple of bumps and dings.  The only reservation I have with it it that i hope that CZ has good sales and will be able to support the turkish Huglu product line with spare parts and service.

the reason I did purchase it, is because of the assembled quality, nice wood, finish and the fact that it is an auto-loader for the price of $339 bucks.  The 3 1/2 inch magnum was a $100 more.  it patterns well from what I can tell and everything assembles and feels great.

I did hear that one guy who also bought one from the same store had a little problems with fail to feed on very light trap loads until the gun broke in.  i shot conventional bargain lead 2 3/4 inch 71/2 shot loads with no troubles.

Good comments.  One last question:  for traveling purposes can the gun be broken down and the barrel seperated from the reciever?

            Thanks again

Yes, the barrel breaks down and seperates easily once the fore-end wood is removed.  I do wonder how much the o-ring can take as far as assembly/ breakdowns for cleaning and such.

btw, I found that Huglu has an english side to their website and learned that the CZ 712 is from their newer designed gas system as they have references to both the "old gas system" as well as a variant with inertial loading instead of gas operated.

also of note are the 7 round magazines for each model as well as plastic(synthetic) stocks apparently optional on some models.

link to english side of Huglu Turkey website:

            www.huglu.com.tr/eng_tarihce.htm

I kind of hope CZ makes parts or the other models available if they are up to 1st world standards.

update a few hundred round later.

            working fine, no jams.

I did let someone else shoot it and somehow it double fed 2 shells into the action somehow. this happened twice, but not after I had him change his grip. I think this shooter was gripping the slide release or the tab on the borrom of the feed ramp.  never did it again.  but anyways, it feeds 100% for me.

I have yet to talk to someone who shoots the 3.5 magnum, but one of the sporting goods stores here does sell a lot of CZ's, maybe I'll run into one at the counter there.

the quail in San Bernadino/ Riverside Co hate my CZ however.
