P-09 in the wind at 100 yards Wednesday
« on: June 18, 2025, 09:41:06 PM »
I'm stuck on shooting the P-09!  I was out of town for 2 weeks so am a little rusty, but I knew I needed at least some trigger time so I went to the local 100 yard range this morning and shot the P-09 again.  Same gun, same range, same ammo, as for the video I published a little over two weeks ago.  But this time, the results were bad.  I knew I was in trouble when I saw that I couldn't hold the dot perfectly steady over the aim point.  My theory is that the wind contributed greatly to the unsteadiness, and possibly affected the bullet path a little.

I have my trigger finger control back, so I should be able to get all the shots on the B-6C target next time out, similar to what I did earlier.  One good day with P-09, and then back to the striker guns or maybe the .45.  Even though I didn't shoot well today, it was good to get in some trigger time, visit with my shooting buddies, and play with the video cameras again.

Now if I can just get the B-2 and F-35 dreams out of my head...

It's Friday morning and I'm going to head to the range at 9am.  Gusty again this morning, so I am going to take some bags and see if I can support the muzzle well enough in the cross wind to minimize the lateral movement of the gun in the wind.  It MIGHT help.  Hard to tell if Wednesday's results were the result of wind or something else.  It might just be me and missing some trigger time.  I should know by noon.

I tried the muzzle support this morning and it definitely helped in the wind.  With a second point of contact at the front end of the gun, and with the butt of the gun on the block same as before, there is less of a chance for the wind to move the gun laterally.  We had maybe even a little more wind today than on Wednesday, and I was able to get a good result.  Video and full explanation by Saturday morning.
