What pellets does your 631 like?
« on: March 31, 2004, 12:01:23 PM »
I just ordered my son a 631 Slavia. He's been shooting in an air rifle league for a year, and has gotten pretty good, but the cheap Marksman rifle he has now just isn't cutting it. We chose the 631 because of all the great things I've heard about its accuracy.

We tried the RWS sampler pack of 5 different types of pellets to try to get his rifle to shoot better. By far the best was the Meisterkugeln, which was the heaviest (8.3 gr, I think). Next was the Hobbys, and the hollow-points were OK. Domed and pointed abslutely sucked (3" groups at 10 meters - on a good day).

He doesn't hunt, we're interested in nice tight groups. We still have some of each of the pellet types left to try with the 631, but we're wondering what some of you have found to be the best in your Slavias. Weight, shape, etc.

            Clue us in, please. Thanks.

Thanks for the input. The 631 should be here tomorrow, and we'll probably get to the range by Thursday or so, definitely by the weekend. I will try to get as many of your suggested pellets as I can find to see what it likes.

            Thanks again.

OK, made it to the range on Friday, since my son and I both had the day off. We took the 631, and the old Marksman for comparison.

First, I thought that the 631 might be too big for my son. He's 11, and a little small for his age, and the 631 is a big, long rifle. Well, we can forget about that problem. He absolutely loves the 631. He had no problem at all handling it, and that nice wide stock is great on the bench.

We tried the RWS Meisterkugeln, Crosman Copperhead Wadcutters, RWS hollow-points and Hobbys, and some cheap Daisy wadcutters. Needless to say, the 631 shot all of them beautifully. The Meisterkugelns and Copperheads were the best, and my son was absolutely ecstatic about the groups he was shooting.

Then, the fun part --- since no one else was shooting at the range, we set up some soda cans and water bottles and did a little plinking. The 631 was so accurate, the kid got bored just shooting water bottles, and started shooting the caps off of them --- with iron sights, at 50 feet. Very impressed with himself --- and I was, too.

Needless to say, great day of shooting with the little dude. He is extremely happy with the 631, and wants to start going to the Boys' club Saturday mornings to start working on his position rankings.

Hats off to CZ for making such an accurate, well-built rifle at such an amazingly low price. Of course, being the owner of a 452 American 22 LR, I expected no less. I guess if I want to shoot the 631, I will have to start going to the range after he's in bed (although at $89, I guess I could afford my own).

            Thanks for all your input.

I am glad your son liked his cz631 , I was sure he would.
unfortunately these rifles are now discontinued , and buying 1 or 2 of your own is not such a bad idea ..while they are available. these rifles are extreemly accurate
and well built, unmatched value for what they sell for.

The 630 and 631 are still on CZ web site while the Tex 3 isn't any more.
How did you learn the 630 serie air rifle will be dicontinued?

Someone know if the Tex 3 is realy gone? I bought mine about
            three months ago!

I first heard about cz's plan to discontinue the 631/630
from Tim Johnson (Johnson Target works , mckinney tx)
He used to have special orders of 15inch barreled 631s
that was in the fall of 2003 .
Subsequent to that I emailed CZUSA , and I got a reply
from an Alice boluchova (spelling?) confirming there intention to discontinue the line .
the good news is they plan on having a new line of airguns in 2005 , having more power , and more upscale.

                     all the best , Frank.

That's too bad, because it's a great air rifle. I thought something might be going on, because the 631 is no longer on CZ-USA's web site (although the 630 still is), and my local gun shop was unable to get me one. I ended up getting it from Compasseco.

It will be interesting to see what they come up with to replace them. I'd also like to try the CZ 200 series some day. Are they readily available?

The cz200 is an excellent rifle , very accurate (arn't all Cz's!!) . It has been marketed under the AA air arms
banner , and I believe some were marketed by Daisy.
They came in several power versions, Britains non Fac,
Canada's non pal , and US full power .
A good pcp rifle for sure .

In order to circumnavigate all the fallout from the famous Daisy Ruling, CZ evidently decided it was more prudent to remove the TEX from the market, rather than modify the pistol with a manual safety, in order to serve the American market. This is a shame, but understandable.
The TEX is a fine shooting 10m target pistol. It has a low muzzle report, low mechanical sounds, and it's universal grip shape adapts to right or left handers also many various hand sizes. The velocity is somewhat on the low side (at around 360-380fps), but it's consistency makes up for it's lowish power level (it was NEVER meant to be a Hunter).
It's a true shame that a pistol such as the TEX got lost to the American shooter, but with the quality of the pistol, "used" TEX's will  still be available for some time to come, finding one will be the trick!
