I picked up my 40-P this afternoon, took it to the range for a brief test run this evening and thought I'd share my impressions.
Esthetically, it looks CZ if you know what I mean, but not quite as pleasing to me as my PCR. The slide is just a little too long for the frame, compromising the nearly perfect proportions you get with CZ's mainline compacts. It's still has a lot of the things I like about CZs and so overall is a nice looking gun. One thing I definitely like is the extended slide release ala the P-01 but a feature sadly lacking on my PCR and 40B.
At the range I put 30 rounds of Speer 165 gr JHP and 30 of my reloaded 170 gr SWCs. The gun functioned without a bobble, but definitely could use a stronger recoil spring. Recoil was pretty snappy and my brass was hitting the floor about 20 feet away. Replacing the spring might require installing a FLGR, as the gun uses the P-01 rod which doesn't run the full length of the 40B slide, but is long enough that it pokes out the front when the slide is back and seems to require the flattened factory recoil spring to keep it centered so it doesn't catch during cycling. When I get a chance I'll check to see if the 40B's stainless guide rod will fit and function.
Accuracy was typical of this type of gun for me, with groups averaging about 3" at 15 yards. The trigger is decent, but will definitely benefit from a lighter mainspring and some breaking in, the same as all my other CZs.
One nice thing I was able to confirm is that the Pro-Mag compact .40s fit and functioned perfectly in this gun, a boon for those planning to ccw it, including Yours Truly.
Overall this gun was pretty much what I expected, a solid, accurate ergonomic pistol, and a real steal for the price. Pure CZ.
