CZ83/7.65mm
« on: November 08, 2001, 06:33:46 PM »
Maybe we don't need a review now that the the 7.65mm is discontinued, but I am so impressed with this pistol I'll do one anyway.  I paid $290 plus tax and dealer handling for this gun about a year ago.  It was shipped to my dealer directly from CZ.

Fit and finish.  Not quite what a 75 gets, but far better than anything else offered in .32 auto today.

Function.  To date I have fired over 500 rounds.  Remington, Winchester, Federal, Fiocchi and (mostly) S&B.  The gun has never had a single failure to function.  Ejection is robust and consistant.  In fact, when you go through a whole clip from the same spot, you can often here the "tink" as one empty hits the others already on the ground! The slide has never failed to remain open after last round is fired. Single action/double action pull are reasonable for this class of weapon.  Astonishingly, the owners manual details the prodedure for carrying the gun with a loaded round in the chamber--hold on to the hammer VERY CAREFULLY while you pull the trigger.  I would think that this might come back to bite them in product liability court someday.

Accuracy.  My poor marksmanship makes my comments on this issue not worth much.  The gun can clearly print a better group than I can.  S&B ammo did usually produce significantly smaller groups than any other brand.  See my comments about ammo under "Pocket Pistols" regarding .32/7.65mm ammo.

Chrono results.  All brands of 71/73 gr chronoed in the low to mid 900's.  The Fiocchi 60gr HP clocked at 1250fps!

Ergonomics.  Fabulous.  This is the only .32/7.65mm that is big enough to take a normal grip on.  The grips are well thought on and fit me perfect.   Safety engagement is easy and certain.  A solid "clunk" as it moves in or out of position.   Magazines slide in and out easily.  One minor complaint--pushing the small cases into the strong magazine resistance is hard on the fingers after a while.  CZ needs to offer a loading assist device like so many larger guns have.

Summary.  The high quality. flawless reliability, mild report and lack of recoil of this gun have made it my all time favorite plinker.  I enjoy it so much, I am going to get another in .380.  I see that CZ marks them "9mm Browning".  Is that cool or what?

Good write-up!

Let us know if/when you get the .380.  I'm thinking of getting one myself - $229 in my area.

Dragondog, is that for a new gun?  We have a lack of dealers in Denver now.  The gun shows have really hurt them.  Unfortunately, I see very few CZ's and don't think I can ever remember seeing an 83 at a show.

I shot my 83 in 9mm mak twice now. My only words are HOLY CRAP!!!! Very smooth and functions reliably, probably more accurate than i am. I dont like loading the last two rounds into the 12 round clip though, by the time i load 4 clips or so, my fingers hurt....LOL I know, im a wimp.

All in all, i would trust my life to this gun when i get better at shooting!!!!!
