RAMI in 9 mm
« on: March 06, 2004, 10:25:54 PM »

Two parts: first is copied from earlier post this week after purchase, second is after the range.

  Part 1

Fit and finish seem fine, one small burr in the inside of the slide was easily removed.

Gun seems on a par to my PCR in tolerances etc. Put in some snap caps and did some dry firing and cycling of the slide. Trigger pull is a little more than I thought it would be but seemed to either lighten up with just some dry firing or I was just getting used to it. There is a half cock position to the hammer. So far I am pleased and liked what I saw and felt a lot.

I found two "flaws". First the outside edges of the rear sight have a VERY sharp edge/point and if you moved your hand over this area in a fast movement you could cut yourself, or if on your hip it might "dig" into your flank, Second is the grips, the rubber is thin at the lowest, most rearward area of the grip and when you grab the holstered gun and slide your hand on to the grip this area of rubber curls up a bit; this area of rubber could be radiused (?sp) with an exacto knife but I did not attempt this to date. So far everthing else is just as I had hoped.

  Part 2
Total of 325 rounds fired, over 290 of Winchester white box bulk pack; 20 rounds of another flavor of Winchester (friend shot these) and 13 Remington 9mm 124 grain Golder Sabers.  Rounds shot as DA and SA and combination of DA/SA (double taps).

Magazines were a little stiff trying to get the 10th round in but manageable.  Ammo seemed in a proper relation to follower.  Magazines loaded easily in to gun and engaged as they should.  Slide relased without difficulty, although I would prefer just a little longer slide release lever.  Gun felt well balanced and seemed to "point" well.  (With the pinky under the magazine it did want to dip just a bit I thought, I was able to get rest my pinky on the front of the magazine extension and the gun pointed very naturally there for me - but I am a small guy so your experience may be different).  Again I noted the lowest most posterior portion of the right grip wanted to curl up when I grasped the gun, but a quick mild relaxation of the palm let it snap back into place.  The slide racked without much effort.   Double action trigger pull was acceptable.  Single action was great - just a little play; and overall the trigger felt on a par with my PCR.  Trigger travel felt good to me.   I did note that the trigger had a certain feel to it, and that as I shot more it started to few "gritty" for a few rounds, but then smoothed out again.  Recoil was mild and very controllable, gun was a pleasure to shoot.  The sights are functional, but again I noted the sharp edges on the outer rear sights.  Accuracy was great, no compalints about that PERIOD.

  Total of 323 rounds fired:
  Failure to feed - zero
  Failure to extract - zero
  Jams - zero
Failure to fire - one.  At about the 110th round (of Winchester white box bulk ammo) one round did not fire.  This round was inspected and had a light strike mark on it.  The firing pin area was inspected and there was a small amount of grit noted near the firing pin opening, this was removed. Same round was loaded again and it fired.  No further events like this.  All during the shooting I had to keep swabbing oil off the gun (and I had cleaned it when I bought the gun).  The failure to fire may have been from a high primer, or I think more likely from some grit that worked its way out.

I really like this gun, and would give it a big thumbs up so far.

This gun was purchased with the idea it would replace my Kahr MK9.  I plan to try these out side by side in the future but so far the CZ has a BIG edge.  The PCR has a better grip by virtuue of its size, but otherwise this gun reminded me of my PCR when shooting.

I have yet to clean the gun after the range time, if anything seems amiss I will write more.

  :D
