Help Identify CZ75 15rd. Mag Base Pad/Extension
« on: October 23, 2001, 03:31:37 AM »
I have a new CZ75 that I am looking forward to using in IPSC.  I would like to get some magazine base pads/mag extenders.  I have seen some pictured, so know they do exist:

Does anyone know who makes these, or any other CZ75 compatible base pad/mag extender.

They look identical (except for the bright red color) to the ones that Pearce Grips sells for $9.95. They are part number PG-BHP2. They are advertized fro Berettas and Browning Hi-Powers, but fit CZs. Why not just order the 20 round mags from www.TheSportsmansGuide.com? $24.95 each.

BTW, AjaxGrips has the PG-BHP2 for $7.95 each. They need a Wolf +10% spring to be reliable.

I hate to say this, but The Sportsmans Guide did not even come close to shipping me what they promised. They ripped me off. I ordered the 20 round magazine for a CZ-75, and found out that the invoice siad 20 round, but the mag was a cheap piece of junk 15 round that did not come close to feeding. I would accept a non-feeding 20 rounder, but a 15 rounder is a "scam, or possibly scamola" (to quote Homer Simpson.) Please do not order these!

I bet htye are trying to sell USA magazines..they are ultra-crappy followers, but some
can keep them running with CZ followers and Wolf springs.

I have a source for the pre-ban 20 round mags from a reputable company.
$39.00 each, but guarenteed to work according to the maker.

Many use these 20- and 30 round Ruger P89 mags in their PC9s.

Yep, they look and feel like USa brand junk. Mine was shipped back, and I still do not have my refund.

PLEASE, tell me where you can get the 20 round mags for $39.95.

The basepad extensions from Brownells are great!

They do give you more room than do the +2 extensions from PG. This is due to a simpler (BETTER) design. They are (I believe) EXACTLY what you show in the photograph.

These are VERY DURABLE. The all-machined-aluminum construction will not break. They will not slide off due to the (1/16" Hex-head) screw in the aluminum that secures the basepad onto the gun. It does not screw into the gun, but does hold the mag from sliding backwards out of the groove provided in the base plate. (Does that make sense?)

The only downside is that they do not hold +3. I put one on a CZ factory 15 round 9mm high-cap, and it allowed the mag to hold 17 and a half. They are plus 2-and-a-half for 9mm. That would hold an entire +2 for 40, but may or may not allow a 9mm to hold +3.

Conclusion: I have replaced my PG extension on my home defense gun with it, and will never use the PGs again, if I have the money for the Brownell's. These are better all around, but Brownell's should be honest enough to say that they do not always ad +3 capacity to the magazine.

I want a pad ONLY, don't want the addl round capability (CALIF). Are any of these just made to protect the mag when it drops? I only need them for shooting IDPA, don't need to add capacity. I was looking at the Brownell's catalog, but they all seem to be extender types, maybe I'll give them a call and see if they can clarify.

I believe the Brownells also sell rubber pads that do not add to mag's capacity.

My question is how do I get to compete with the shooter on that picture?

Just a suggestion.  If you are handy, you can make your own "Custom" mag pads from a good thick mouse pad.  The "material" will set you back a whole $5.00 from a well stocked department chain store.  You'll need a really sharp scissors or a cutting board and an exacto knife.  Note, you can also layer the material for thickness.  Made some recently and they turned out great.

Well, that is a race rig the nice lady is wearing; and her stance is an IPSC "surrender" or wrists above shoulders stance; not to mention she looks ready to go (no pun of course) while facing UP range which all leads me to believe she is an IPSC shooter; but not like any competitor I have ever seen at matches in the Mid-Atlantic. Anyone know where/ what country the picture is from?

to answer the last question first she is a member of the swedish bikini team (sbt, im not kidding, the link below will back me up here) and her and her friends shot a match here in socal at the southwest pistol league.  the reason for the cz it was a loner from the guys out here who shoot production.  they did surprisingly well actually.

second the cpmi base pads are actually designed to allow 19-20 rds in the magazine.  the dimples on the bottom of the magazine prevent the rounds from coming any farther and thus only allowing 17 rds. the addition of the cpmi follower (for some reason not carried by brownells) allows an extra round, and on some aftermarkets 2.  removing the dimples the best way you can is necessary to get the most out of the pads.  the picture above gives a pretty good idea of what needs to be removed if you look closely at the mag and not whats behind it.  and from experience a wolff +5 spring is a good idea when doing this.

<<...look closely at the mag and not whats behind it.>>

You gotta be kidding, man...

Should we make it a new tradition - every major match must be accompanied by some bikini team - the IPSC version of cheerleaders?

These are CPMI base pads.  They will only add capacity if your mags have the follower stops removed.  You can tell this by the oval holes machined into the sides of the mags.

CPMI extensions are great, I use them with the flat sided mags that redoggxx used to sell as "flat base" mags, they hold 19 or 20 rounds of 9mm per mag, depending on the spring. CPMI also sells non-extended aluminum basepads that should do what the CA IDPA shooter wants, Brownell's has those too.
