Finally in the win column.... With a Glock ;)
« on: October 30, 2002, 06:23:38 PM »
The wife and I shot a GSSF (Glock) match last weekend, as I mentioned in another post.  Well, the match results are in........  Yours truly took top honors in his class, using one of those darn, inaccurate, .40 cal plastic pistols, shooting those nasty old reloads.  So what do I get for my trouble, you ask?  Why, a new Glock, of my choice, that's what... :)   The wife took second in the same class, just 3 seconds behind me.  She won $100.  All in all, not a bad weekend...

Sorry, they wouldn't allow me to shoot my 75B... :)

WHAT?????  This can't be true, those pistols are inaccurate and it would have blown your hand off.  You expect us to believe that???????????

CONGRATS GLOCKGUY, WE DON'T CARE IF YA USE A SHOVEL TO WIN, JUST WIN.

Glock Guy, I'm happy for you...

But COME ON!!!!

IT WAS A GLOCK MATCH!   Of course you were shooting a plastic pistol!  You weren't allowed to shoot anything ELSE!!

(That's like bragging about winning a horse race, because you rode a horse!)

'cmon, Walt.  I've never won anything at a GSSF match.  Let me gloat a little... ;)   Besides, I was shooting an inaccurate .40... :)

You should feel GOOD about winning the match (and the prize).

Especially the prize.

I'd gloat, too.

(But you didn't win BECAUSE you were shooting a Glock.  You won because you were the BEST SHOOTER in your class!  That's the good part.)

I know you were poking at me. Just wanted to do a little poking, myself.  The Glock vs CZ vs 1911 vs Baretta, etc. gets old, after awhile and some take it entirely too seriously.  Just adding a little levity... ;)   BTW, did you know that a Glock took production class in the world shoot, this year?

It's sort of like drinking.  It's fun at first, but eventually it just makes you sick and kills brain cells.

I was going to use another analogy (and use the proper medical term), but some people don't like it when someone brings up the "M word."  8)

And I've come in second in my last three IDPA matches(overall time) including a small match this past Satuday.

But I was shooting against two very good shooters, one with an SVI race gun slightly detuned to meet IDPA requirements.   These guys are just faster than me.

On a good night one of them (a deputy sheriff) can put two in the -0 area in under a second from 7 yards.   His break times are consistely .02 - .04 faster than mine.  My only consolation is that I'm 59, and he's 35.

(The only problem with that reasoning is that the other guy who is faster than me is 62...)

If they goof, I win; if they don't, I come in second or third.  (I can improve, and will -- but they're not getting worse.)

guys,

im relatively young, so im pretty new to the sport. ive tried the glock 19 yesterday, and it went pretty well. pretty accurate and the trigger pull was very nice for a double action pistol. i liked it a lot despite some negative comments from my adviser (the guy who was responsible for convincing me to get the CZ brand). however, so many ppl also like the glock .

any comments?

i wouldnt trade my cz though. : )

Glocks are good guns.

I find their grips a little "chunky" for my tastes, but had a great Glock 17.

If you can't handle the CZ double-action trigger (and some can't), the shorter Glock "safe-action" trigger might be the answer.

(The Glock isn't really a double-action gun.  DA guns use the trigger to cock and release the hammer or striker.  With Glocks, the slide cycling partially SETS the striker, and the trigger further cocks and releases it.  It feels like double-action, but is slightly different.)

Which is better?  The Glock or the CZ?   Both are great guns.  Only you can decide which is best for you.  Preferably by renting both and shooting them a lot.

Personally, I prefer the 17 over the 19 -- its only a wee bit larger, but the mags can hold more rounds.  Many folks prefer the 19.  (I'd really like to have a Glock 34, which is a 17 on steroids...)
