Non-factory grips in IPSC production division
« on: April 08, 2003, 05:33:49 PM »
I'd just like to ask if using wraparound grips such as those from Hogue is allowed if I am going to use my CZ85 in IPSC production division. The rule on allowed modifications doesn't seem clear on this to me. Thanks.

Rules 14th edition Septemper 2002:

"Use of aftermarket grips is allowed as long as the replacement grips profile the factory standard."

I think wrap-around grips are not allowed, since profile is not factory standard.

But you can always use lot of grip tape to achieve "finger grooves" :-)

I thought about using hogue wrap arounds too on my 85 combat, and was puzzled.  Especially since CZ offers their 75 Champion with Hogue wrap arounds.

thanks for the reply, vtc.

i downloaded a copy of the 2002 IPSC pistol rules just now, and i think you're right. too bad, since i recently bought a pair of hogue wraparounds during our last gun show.

hmmm... could this be a sign that i need to buy another CZ? one for IPSC, and another so my hogue grips don't go to waste :)

The rubber grips from CZ-USA may be your answer.  They comply with the rules, and most people find them more comfortable than the Hogue.  (Since they have the CZ logo on them, no one would be too likely to realize that the pistol isn't bone stock, anyway.)

Trausch also makes some compliant grips.

Thanks, guys. I'll look into the CZ rubber grips too, although I'm already quite happy with the Hogue grips. I had some trouble when I first installed them though-- I think they were pressing against the magazine brake, because my magazines weren't falling free anymore. I reinstalled them and the problem went away.
