50 bmg rifles almost banned

Just after 12 noon Pacific Time, the California Assembly voted to ban 50 bmg rifles. 42-26.

The bill is now referred to the Senate.

In the last week we have managed to light up the phones, faxes and mailboxes of California Assembly members.  FCSPI representatives along with folks from the NRA, CRPA and others have been at the Capital all week fighting the bill.

We lost this battle butwe will not lose the war in California.

At the same time, legislation is moving in the New York Assembly to ban 50 caliber rifles there as well.

Pretty unbelievable huh.  Considering most crimes are committed with a .50 caliber handgun.  To tell you the truth, I'm more irritated at the "Victim Fund" bill that is being proposed now.  It would add a 10 cents "fee" to every round sold in the state.  For reloaders, it would tax the primers....

Doesn't look like it will pass, but we have to keep on them.  If you do the math it would add $100 to every case sold.

There was another bill proposed but was killed that would have required magazine disconnects and loaded chamber indicators on all handguns sold.  The author of the bill simply took the wording from the killed bill and put it into another bill that originally had nothing to do with firearms to see if he could get it past the voters.  Most likely this one will die also...
