Hello -- I joined the CZ Club in May when i purchased a new P-01. 300 rounds through it, I love it.  I put in a CGW stainless rod.  I am using the factory flat spring. So far, so good. I will keep an eye out for unusual wear on the frame. I haven't been able to locate a regular round wire spring as recommended, in the standard factory weight of 16 (?) lbs.  Any sugeestions?  Thanks!

The CZ-USA website offers what looks like round wire Wolff recoil springs in 17-20 lb weights that are stated to fit the Compact, P-01, P-06, PCR and D models.

FWIW - the aluminum frame CZ 75 Compact Shadow Line comes with the flat wire recoil spring on a SS guide rod.

I just bought a lightly-used (2020) P-01 and the seller included a brand new uninstalled MCARBO spring kit still in the unopened shipping package.  When I opened the package pleasantly surprised to see that it also included a SS recoil rod.  Stopped at the range on my way home to shoot a couple mags, but first I went ahead and replaced the guide rod only, keeping the factory flat spring.  Worked just fine for the 3-4 mags I shot.  (just range ammo 115g FMJ).

Next step is to install the spring kit (my first time going beyond a field strip of a handgun).  The one spring I think I'll leave alone (at least for now) is the sear spring.

Love the P-01.  I've had one before and the trigger didn't meet my expectations, but before I knew enough about improving it I found a trade for a 92fs Compact.  That's when I learned just how much I preferred the P-01 ergo.  So I've sold the 92fs and now I have a 2020 production P-01 which has (slightly) improved factory sights and now 15-round mags with modernized base pads.  Not the most cost effective route, but glad to get back to a P-01.

I have the SS guide rods in my compacts and my SP01. The flat stick spring issue, I believe, is that it won’t fit in the full size. I can use the stock flat spring in my compacts with no issues. If you try t9 use the stock flat spring in the full size SP01 it literally won’t fit. The spring can’t make the bend.  Using a round wire spring it works with no issue.  I suspect CZ is guilty of some lazy cross pollination of issues compounded by a language barrier perhaps?

I don’t think you can sell a CZ steel guide rod to me and then void the warranty if I use the very part CZ sold in the manner described. I suspect that the preening shown in the pictures occurred and never got worse if they continued the use of SS guide rod. Not completely uncommon or unexpected. Nothing I would worry about most likely either. Everyone has to make their own call. The aluminum framed Shadow coming from factory with steel guide rod says a bunch though.

I have read through this thread and still am unsure as to whether stainless steel guide rods are safe to use and do not damage the p-01’s.  As others have mentioned the SDP comes with a stainless steel guide rod installed.

I have one on order for my P-01 from CGW. I also have a SS guide rod in my SP-01 which has caused no damage...not even a tiny bit of rubbing.

I have a SS rod in my P-01 that I bought with the CGW kit. I have maybe 300 rounds through it. I'm not worried, it runs great so.....
Thanks

I’ve seen this discussed in forums for pistols other than CZ,and the question I have never seen discussed is,”what is the advantage does a SS guide rod offer.”  I’d be interested in hearing answers re: P-01s.

Because some of us simply prefer the quality of steel vs the material that trash bags are made of.

^^^^ This, I don't mind plastic frames but just don't care for plastic guide rods, especially in a metal frame gun. I bought my PCR used and the plastic guide rod was twisted bad. It had a few FTF, After replacing with a steel it never happened again, it could have been coincidence. I put some grease on the end and never had a problem with any steel guide rods in CZ's. I also make sure its properly sprung for the loads I am shooting as well.

Yeah, I get the “oooooh it has a plastic guide rod” argument, like some people won’t  shoot “ Tupperware guns”, but it’s not a reason, it’s a preference.  I’ve never seen a plastic guide rod break in use. Someone might have. That’s why I asked.

Some here have replaced the plastic guide rod due to it becoming deformed over time. Some people will add a tungsten guide rod on certain guns because it adds a bit of weight to the muzzle area and they feel it reduces muzzle flip for them.

Thank you haroldg48, my sentiments exactly. CZ does not recommend metal spring guide rods for a reason and they have stated, if used, it will void their warranty as well. The plastic guide rod is just a guide rod for the spring. It is not a support part. So if it looks deformed when removed, it is not really an issue, as long as it performs to guide the spring, when installed. Besides, they don't cost that much to replace.
