The Compact has a steel frame, so it doesn't matter which rod.
Not sure what spring it comes with....

CZ's web site says the SDP is modified P-01 even though it has "compact" in the name. Seeing that caused me to wonder about how they make the SS rod work without frame damage.

You are right! after reading the discription, I'm guessing it has lighter springs
and a trigger job without any other changes!

Question: round versus flat recoil springs?  I presume that you are talking about the spring metal cross-section?  If so, I have never seen a "flat" cross-section on a coil spring for a handgun.  My 4 CZs (P-01, P-06, and 2 RAMIs) all have a round cross-section recoil spring.

My P-01 came with a flat recoil spring.
Here are a couple pictures comparing my factory poly guide rod with flat spring (blue) and the aluminum rod with wolff spring.

My mistake.  After seeing the excellent pics by BGlas, I went back and checked.  My P-06 does indeed have the flat recoil spring.  I never noticed the difference before.  Also, the aluminum guide rod ($18, purchased from CZ) does have the raised locating dimple on the flat end, and positions itself securely.  So, I would guess that it should all be okay?  Thanks,

Honestly, the only complaints I have heard about the aluminum guide rod is when it is used with a flat recoil spring; might have to do with the smaller inside diameter and sharper edges scraping up the aluminum.  I've seen that with the flat recoil spring and stainless steel guide rods as well.

I presume you mean scraping up the aluminum on the guide rod itself (not the frame)??

Yes, sorry, should have been more clear on that.

As this or the p01 is likely a next choice I would appreciate any help.

I just inspected mine. I have shot about 5,500 rounds with the SS guide rod. On a close inspection of the frame I do see some minor wear on the sides of the frame in the area indicated by KFD147.
I also looked inside the dust cover on the slide where the front end of the rod goes to. there is some wear inside, but looks like from the spring itself. That does not bother me that much.
I think I will contine using the SS rod, but keep checking it every few hundred rounds.

Me too.  I'm keeping my SS rod in it.

The same question asked in a different way is, has anyone ever experienced a function or wear problem due to the plastic guide rod ?

I have the CGW ss guide rod. I've fired 300 rounds so far with it. No wear on any part of the pistol noted. However, the guide rod itself has a small divot on the rim. Here's a photo.
