Well, the accuracy of the champion with standard comp is not bad for sure. I got some good accuracy using a Fiochi 123 gr , federal spp, 4.0 VV N320 from 25m last night.  It was a very soft load. I guess it will make minor bad it's a real wussy-load ;D   Drawback is that it doesn't allow the comp to do any work...at all! just not enough gaspressure.  But anyway: the gun is OK but I'm gonna stick a c-more on top and turn the champion into a "minor open class fun-shooter kind-a-thingymagee"..... :D

After the c-more is on, I will develop some loads and also experiment with with loads that DO run the comp as well. Will take some time though! Also need to track down some 25 rounds mags.

I stopped by Venry?s shop yesterday and left with him my SP01, already changed to single action and with a CZ TS 9mm barrel installed (5 ??) to have a compensator built and installed. I will keep posting the progress on my SP01 Open 9 major. Still to decide between Docter/JP and C-More - I like the fact that the Docter/ JP sights can be mounted low, but C-More has dot brightness control which seems to be one the most desired features from all Open shooters I talked to.

So you seriously intend to shoot major 9mm loads? Aren't you concerned about longevity of the gun?

Alright, I WANT A CHAMPION comp on my SP-01!  Shot a match this weekend and my buddy shot his 9mm Champion, me with my SP-01, that Champion just doesn't move at all with the comp and he was shooting WWB 9mm and Black Hills 9mm.  I really want to convert my SP-01 to SA and add a comp.  Trigger pull is so light that it caught him of guard a few times and actually messed up his cadence, he shot faster than he wanted to a few times.  I ordered an M&P 9 Pro this week to replace my SP-01 for production so I can mess with the SP-01 in the future.

Please keep us updated and remember to post pics of the finished gun.

There is another route to explore, but it needs to be checked. EAA Witness has a CZ Champion equivalent and they do offer the replacement barrel with compensator. The key is to understand how much work is needed to fit the Witness barrel to the SP01. I was about to order the barrel and compensator to find out what it would take to fit it on my SP01, but EAA did not have it in stock at the time, so I asked Venry (RPD) to build a compensator. It should be ready in a few weeks.

Here is my gun.  I have posted before, but this will give people ideas.  Also a friend just bought a barrel from www.efkfiredragon.com for a small frame EAA and it is awesome.  They offer extended, threaded barrels for 75s and SPO1s.  Also for those interested, I just mounted a Burris Fastfire dot on this gun.  I bought a 1911 standard mounting platform and had to use a thin metal shim but it seems rock solid so far.  I will probably convert my old slide racker into the dovetail portion of the mount and then screw the plate directly to the slide racker.

I've been watching your SP01 project progress, and it looks like it's coming along nicely.  You'll have to get some updated pictures once the Fastfire gets mounted.  I have one of those in route for a open class Kadet project myself.  Let us know what you think about using the dovetail mount;  I was going to try and melt mine in, as I was afraid that the dot would set up too far otherwise.

I hadn't heard that EFK was doing CZ barrels.  That's awesome.  Kinda expensive, but if they work well it will certainly be worth having the option.  Are these drop in, or gunsmith fit?

I sincerely appreciate everyone's thoughts and help.  Not much talk on the Champion (or open class CZ's for that matter), and it's nice hearing what everyones doing and why.

The Fastfire is mounted and by far sits lower than the weaver rail of course.  Melted in would be nice, but I have actually been shooting my gun in open class with iron sights and don't want to lose that option.  I will try to post a pic soon.  The EFK barrel my friend installed was because EAA did not have his barrel in stock and his EAA barrel broke the lug off of the bottom of the barrel.  He gave them the oustide diameter and they sent him the barrel.  His had the EAA comp on it and it was in a odd thread pattern.  EFK said for him to send his barrel, comp, and their barrel back with a provided call tag and they would thread and fit the comp.  My friend just ordered the die himself and threaded his own barrel.  He did it in a very short while and I see no problem with his work.

As an fyi (some may already know this) there is a website called www.live.com and if you search for a product through this engine it may link you to a discount throught ebay.  For instance, if you search for Fastfire, the first line is for an ebay link and a possible discount if you use paypal to pay.  Right now it is 25% off and ebay is giving an aditional 10% off.  35% off a $165 sight is a hell of a deal.

Major is not a problem with todays power factor and powders.  I shoot 8.5 grs of Ramshot Silhouette, WSP primer, range brass, and a 115gr JHP from Montana Gold.  There is no pressure sign that has scared me yet and this is loaded to 1.10" OAL.  I have even shot this load in several standard guns with no problem.  This round is a 172 power factor at 1520fps.  I check my slide stop after each match and there is not a mark on it.

Phil,

Thanks for the pictures and the details.  Your SP-01 is SICK - I hope it works out well for you.  Sent you a PM, btw.  Couple more questions....  What are you doing for magazines?  SP-01/modded factory 25rd deals?  Whatd you do to get that stippling texture on there?  MarineTex or equivalent?

The EFK info is mucho helpful.  Looks like there is the source for extended barrels.  Seems to be a multitude of different routes to go here, but I'm a fan of options.  I recently ended up with a 9mm upper, and I'm looking at what all would be required to fit it to my TS lower a la Angus' CTS concepts he was showing off a while back.  Already have magazines/holsters/etc for it, so that might be a natural route.  All I *think* I would need would be a barrel (which thanks to you is now found), and a comp (Which Venry could make), and the requisite fitting the slide/cutting for a FastFire.

Lots of helpful info in this thread pertaining to all things CZ open, so I changed the name for easier searching.  Anyone have any other open class experience/ideas, feel free to let them be known!
