Has anyone colored their CZ?
« on: March 12, 2009, 06:44:56 PM »
I'm just curious if anyone has colored the stamped letters on any CZs? It's a popular "mod" on the XD forums, to add some individuality to what is honestly, a square and plain looking gun. They use melted crayons or ink pens to do it, in all ways and colors. I was just curious if anyone has done anything like this on CZs, and if you have pics?

Examples:

It can be overdone sometimes, but sometimes it just adds some needed contrast. I like the contrast of red and black, and the SP-01 is almost solid black.

I have done it to the safe/fire selector switch on my AR-15. I think it wold look good on a CZ kept as a presintation piece. Mine has a worn finish with some marks in it so I most likely will not do it to it.

What kind of ink and pen are you using for that purdy pink?

I may have seen your pic, or one like it, on XDtalk. It looked soooo good. Just a little selector red was perfect. If I get an SP-01, which I'm leaning towards over an XD, I will definitely figure out the best places to accent with a matching red. I'll be the guinea pig :).

It's not my XD. I agree that's too to the pink side. Some guys have great success with crayon, as strange as it sounds. There's a big how-to writeup on the site. Crayon is great because it's removable, and cheap. Some guys have used some sort of ink pen, I'd have to look at the writeup page to check. I think a red that matches the safety indicator would be good, depending on where.

I have done this to my XD45. I use a Stablo pencil or even a china marker.
It's not permanent but then that's probably a good thing.
Take your time and it should turn out ok.

Yea it seems well known in the XD crowd. I like the idea of it not being permanent. I'm just trying to figure out how to approach the SP01. To me it looks very flat from the grip forward, and has a strange "soft" black finish with round edges. I'm just not in love with its looks. I'm still going to make it my first handgun, because performance is the most important. But I think the small mods people make to the XDs can make them into a whole new gun, besides an insanely reliable shooter.

I'll experiment I guess. I've seen some SP01s with new grip and that alone completely changed what the gun looked like.

Speed Racer,
yes you canget different grips for the SP01. Some from the factory and others are custom. Here are the ones I got from Ghost products.
