CZ 75B SA
« on: March 14, 2009, 03:57:12 PM »
I have primarily been a 1911 shooter my entire life but I am considering buying a 75B Single Action (mostly because I want a higher capacity). I like the construction of the CZ and they are aesthetically pleasing, not as pretty as a 1911, but sleek and graceful like a racehorse. The 75 also fits my hand really well.

Can any one with a 75B SA offer some advice, praise or warnings?

Thanks

not to knock the CZs, but if youre infatuated with the 1911 platform, why not buy a wide body 1911?

My hands are not large enough for most double stacked handguns.

Same here, always been a 1911 shooter but wanted to go with a 9mm to save money on ammo.  I got the CZ 75 SA from the custom shop with all the cool parts. Hammer, trigger,sIghts, grips, it has the works. Price was @ $850.00 to my door. The gun will out shoot you. ;) and the trigger is just unreal. Did a little work on mine today to get it up to 3lbs. ;D  Put the trigger pull gauge on it before we started and it was 2 lbs 10 oz. Went with the 16 lb hammer spring and it's  2-15 3 lb.
And as for the fat 1911, I love them but you can get two of the custom shop guns for the same price as a STI.

I have a 75SA currently.  Its my only handgun.  The next one on the list is a 75 Compact.  This is my experience:

I struggled choosing between the standard 75B, P-01, and the 75SA.  I thought the P-01 felt the most natural in my hand, but I couldn't get over the decocker.  I almost got the 75B and then i found the SA.  The SA had the slight frame modifcations of CZ's newer pistols(beaver tail, extended mag release, and shorter trigger reach).  I went with the SA and I never regret that decision when I'm shooting it.

I do regret it when I'm not shooting it!  Holsters for CZ pistols aren't common, and the SA, having a different slide, has almost no support in the holster market.  The big ambi safety is great at the range but a real pain and liability for carrying.  I'm in the habit of checking the safety whenever entering/exiting vehicles or getting in/out of a chair.

Don't get me wrong, I love the SA, but it feels more like a range piece than a good all around fighting pistol.  And the pistol is bleep good at what it was designed to do... I just didn't pick the pistol designed for what I wanted.  I plan on fixing that with the 75 Compact.

When it comes down to it I wish I had simply gotten a standard 75B.  The new 75B Omega seems to be the "perfect" full size out there IMO right now.  It has all of the frame improvements and a nice simple safety.  A lot of forum members have said it has the best factory trigger of any CZ out there.

Best of luck.  If you get the SA I'm sure you won't regret it.

I am a 1911 fan and I recently bought this CZ75BD, I added Hogue grips so, the gun feels the same as my Springfield 1911 Champion in my hand. Here are my pics. Good luck with your descision.

I came from a 1911 to the CZ for 3 reasons: 9mm, higher capacity, and increased reliability.  I have all CZ75B's that I carry cocked and locked.  I like the CZ75B SA safety better, but didn't want an ambi one.  Also the slide rails hanging out on the front of the SA catch dirt and limit holster options.  Anyways with a competition hammer from Angus I don't miss the 1911 trigger.

So, what did you end up with as a holster?

Have you ever had the safety accidentally knocked to the "off" position or is it just a worry?

Is there a way to eliminate the ambi safety?

I currently carry in a Comp-Tac C-Tac holster.  I much prefer the M-Tac holster(A friend carries a Glock 19 in one- it is a superb holster) but it is only offered for the standard full size 75B, Compact, and P-01.  The C-Tac holster can be ordered for a CZ75b .40, which uses the same slide.  The notch in the holster for the safety does not match the extended safety of the SA and holstering it can sometimes pinch you.

Yes, I have disengaged the safety before by accident.  It does not happen as often any more because I have learned how to maneuver my body more appropriately to avoid hitting the safety, but I still check every time.

There is no EASY way to eliminate the ambi safety as far as I know.  It is much easier to simply have the SA trigger installed on a standard 75B.

I love my SA and do not plan on getting rid of it... unless I have the opportunity to trade for a standard 75B or 75B Omega.
